Inleiding
HERENHUIS van Ruslandgangers met rijk gedecoreerde voorgevel in Hollandse neo-renaissance stijl. In Twente werd de handel in de loop van de negentiende eeuw één van de belangrijkste bestaansbronnen. Terwijl de fabrikanten zorg droegen voor de verkoop van de stoffen hielden de Vriezenveners de distributie in eigen hand. Vanuit Vriezenveen werd vooral veel gehandeld met Rusland, met name St. Petersburg.
Na de tweede wereldoorlog is aan de NO-hoek een praktijkruimte aangebouwd, die voor bescherming van rijkswege van ondergeschikt belang is.
Omschrijving
Monumentaal herenhuis in machinale baksteen opgetrokken vanaf een vierkante plattegrond over twee bouwlagen onder afgeknot met Muldenpannen gedekt schilddak. Het pand staat op een gepleisterde plint en heeft een kroonlijst met gootklossen rondom.
De voorgevel (N) wordt geleed door twee forse risalieten aan weerszijden van een smalle vensteras met entreepartij op de begane grond. De gevel is horizontaal geleed door een cordonlijst en speklagen. Alle gevelopeningen hebben segmentbogen met gepleisterde sluit- een aanzetstenen.
Het rechter risaliet wordt afgesloten door een trapgevel met klauwstukken en rolwerk en op de dekplaten obelisken en bolornamenten. Op de begane grond en de verdieping een drielicht venster, gescheiden door een balkon. Het linker risaliet heeft op de begane grond een drielicht en op de verdieping een tweelicht venster. Het risaliet wordt afgesloten door een dakkapel met fronton. De zij- en achtergevel(s) hebben nauwlijks een architectonische geleding. Tegen de rechter zijgevel bevindt zich de grote houten serre onder lessenaardak. Aan de achterzijde is de gevelcompositie ondergeschikt gemaakt aan de dispositie van de achterliggende vertrekken. In het interieur verkeert de centrale hal nog in vrijwel oorspronkelijke staat. Tussen tochtportaal en hal deuren met geëtst glas. In enkele vertrekken is de detailering intact, bestaande uit stucplafonds, lambrizeringen en kasten.

MANSION of merchants trading with Russia with richly decorated facade in Dutch neo-renaissance style. In Twente, commerce became one of the most important sources of livelihood over the course of the nineteenth century. While manufacturers took care of the sale of fabrics, the merchants of Vriezenveen kept distribution in their own hands. From Vriezenveen, a great deal of trading was conducted particularly with Russia, notably St. Petersburg.
After the second world war, a practice room was added to the NE corner, which is of subordinate importance for protection by the state.
Description
Monumental mansion constructed in machine-made brick from a square floor plan over two storeys under a truncated hipped roof covered with Mulden tiles. The building stands on a plastered plinth and has a cornice with gutter brackets all around.
The front facade (N) is articulated by two substantial projecting sections on either side of a narrow window axis with entrance on the ground floor. The facade is horizontally articulated by a stringcourse and decorative brickwork. All facade openings have segmental arches with plastered voussoirs and springer stones.
The right projecting section is crowned by a stepped gable with claw pieces and scrollwork and on the coping stones obelisks and ball ornaments. On the ground floor and first floor a three-light window, separated by a balcony. The left projecting section has a three-light window on the ground floor and a two-light window on the first floor. The projecting section is crowned by a roof dormer with pediment. The side and rear facade(s) have scarcely any architectural articulation. Against the right side facade is located the large wooden conservatory under a sloping roof. On the rear side, the facade composition is subordinated to the disposition of the rooms behind. In the interior, the central hall remains in virtually original condition. Between the draught porch and hall are doors with etched glass. In several rooms the detailing is intact, consisting of stucco ceilings, wainscoting and cupboards.
