Inleiding
In Chaletstijl in 1892 in opdracht van de N.V. Maatschappij tot Exploitatie van een rust- en herstellingsoord te Valkenburg of aangrenzende streek, naar een ontwerp van architect Dr. P.J.H. Cuypers gebouwd KURHAUS. Het Kurhaus is fraai gesitueerd tegen de hellingen van de Heunsberg en wordt omgeven door tuinen met gazons en groenaanplant.
De naoorlogse aan-, op- en bijbouwen zijn uitgesloten van bescherming.
Omschrijving:
Het voormalige Kurhaus heeft een L-vormige plattegrond telt drie deels vier bouwlagen en wordt afgedekt met zadeldaken met tuiles du Nord pannen. Het toegepaste bouwmateriaal is mergel en hardsteen. Het frontgeveldeel telt vier bouwlagen met haaks op de achtergevel een uitbouw in drie bouwlagen.
Frontgevel met plint geheel in hardsteen uitgevoerd.
Rechthoekige houten vensters en deuren deels met bovenlichten, en deels in een segmentboogvormige omlijsting en deels met hardstenen dorpelstenen. De oorspronkelijke entree bevond zich in het licht vooruitspringende rechterfrontgeveldeel met deur in een hardstenen omlijsting en boven de deur in de drie bouwlagen balkons op houten consoles. Aan de linkerzijde van dit vooruitspringende geveldeel in de drie bouwlagen glas-in-lood vensters van diverse afmetingen.
De dakverdieping in de topgevel van de linkerzijgevel met houten beschot in Chaletstijl. De brede dakkapellen zijn een naoorlogse toevoeging. In de linkerzijgevel van de uitbouw bevindt zich o.a. de huidige entree in een licht vooruitspringend geveldeel.
Haaks op de rechterzijgevel van de uitbouw bevindt zich een uitbouw in twee bouwlagen. Dit gedeelte is enige tijd als kapel in gebruik geweest. Aan dit geveldeel enkele naoorlogse aanbouwen.
Het INTERIEUR is diverse malen gewijzigd en bevat geen beschermde onderdelen.
Waardering:
Het voormalig Kurhaus thans Parkhotel Rooding is van cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een culturele en typologische ontwikkeling. Daarnaast bezat het Kurhaus destijds een pioniersfunctie in de Zuidlimburgse regio.
Het object bezit architectuurhistorische waarde vanwege het bijzondere belang voor de geschiedenis van de architectuur, voor het oeuvre van architect Dr. P.J.H. Cuypers, en wegens het bijzondere materiaalgebruik. Ensemblewaarde ontleent dit object aan de situering tegen de Heunsberg en omgeven door parkachtige tuinen. Description:
The former Kurhaus has an L-shaped floor plan, has three to four storeys and is covered with gabled roofs with tuiles du Nord tiles. The building material used is marl and sandstone. The front facade section has four storeys with an extension perpendicular to the rear facade of three storeys.
