Inleiding:
Met elementen van Neo-Gotiek in 1906 gebouwde UITKIJKTOREN. De uitkijktoren is markant gesitueerd op de Heunsberg. De aan- en bijbouwen zijn uitgesloten van bescherming.
Omschrijving:
De uitkijktoren heeft een rechthoekige plattegrond, telt zeven bouwlagen, en wordt afgedekt met een achtzijdig tentdak bekroond met een groot kruis. Het toegepaste bouwmateriaal is mergel. De dakverdieping dateert uit de jaren dertig en is uitgevoerd in beton. In de eerste bouwlaag diverse aanbouwen van recentere datum. Eerste bouwlaag van de uitkijktoren met rondom een smeedijzeren leuning. De uitkijktoren heeft vier steunberen in luchtboogachtige vorm bekroont met een stenen valk.
Toren met spitsboogvormige stalen vensters. Waterlijsten. Decoratieve smeedijzeren muurankers. Waterspuwers.
Interieur gewijzigd en niet beschermenswaard.
Waardering:
De Wilhelminatoren in Valkenburg aan de Geul is van belang uit cultuurhistorisch oogpunt als een bijzondere uitdrukking van een culturele en typologische ontwikkeling. De bouw van deze uitkijktoren past in het opkomend toerisme in het Geulstadje vanaf ca. 1850. Het object bezit architectuurhistorische waarde vanwege het bijzondere belang voor de geschiedenis van de architectuur, de esthetische kwaliteit van het ontwerp en het materiaalgebruik. Ensemblewaarde ontleent de uitkijktoren aan zijn situering op de Heunsberg en daarmee van bijzondere betekenis voor het aanzien van dit deel van het Geulstadje. De uitkijktoren is tenslotte van algemeen belang vanwege de architectonische gaafheid van het exterieur en de cultuurhistorische kwaliteit.
