Inleiding
BIDKAPEL opgericht ter ere van de Heilige Joseph en gebouwd omstreeks 1930 naar ontwerp van August Hoen uit Meerssen in een naar de Neo-Gotiek verwijzende vormentaal.
De kapel is markant gesitueerd op een driehoekig terrein op de kruising van de Bunderstraat, de Hoogveldstraat en de St. Josephstraat in de onmiddellijke nabijheid van een kleine woninggroep uit 1920.
Omschrijving
Verdiepingsloze bidkapel op rechthoekige plattegrond, geheel opgetrokken uit mergelsteen en gedekt door een op trompen rustend tongewelf onder met leien belegd zadeldak. Het spitsboogvormige portaal met archivolten wordt geflankeerd door twee overhoeks geplaatste bewerkte steunberen met pinakels; wimberg met vierpas en twee visblazen; drie treden tellende mergelstenen stoep.
In het INTERIEUR van belang een mergelstenen altaartafel met opschrift H. Joseph B.V.O.
Waardering
Deze bidkapel ter ere van de H. Sint Joseph is cultuurhistorisch van belang als bijzondere uitdrukking van een geestelijke ontwikkeling; van streekgebonden architectuurhistorische waarde wegens de plaats die het gebouw inneemt binnen het oeuvre van August Hoen alsook wegens het streekgebonden materiaalgebruik; van stedebouwkundig belang wegens de bijzondere situering op een snijpunt van wegen. Voorts is sprake van een hoge mate van gaafheid van exterieur en interieur als ook van regionale zeldzaamheid.

CHAPEL erected in honour of Saint Joseph and built around 1930 after a design by August Hoen from Meerssen in a stylistic language referring to Neo-Gothic.
The chapel is markedly situated on a triangular plot at the intersection of the Bunderstraat, the Hoogveldstraat and the St. Josephstraat in the immediate vicinity of a small group of dwellings from 1920.
Description
Single-storey chapel on rectangular ground plan, constructed entirely of marl stone and covered by a barrel vault resting on squinches beneath a gabled roof laid with slate. The pointed-arch shaped portal with archivolts is flanked by two diagonally placed worked buttresses with pinnacles; gable with quatrefoil and two fish-blade ornaments; marl stone steps numbering three.
In the INTERIOR of significance is a marl stone altar table with the inscription H. Joseph B.V.O.
Valuation
This chapel erected in honour of H. Saint Joseph is of cultural-historical importance as a particular expression of a spiritual development; of regional architectural-historical value owing to the place which the building occupies within the oeuvre of August Hoen as well as owing to the regional material use; of urban planning importance owing to the particular situation at an intersection of roads. Furthermore there is a high degree of integrity of exterior and interior as well as regional rarity.
