Inleiding
De CONCIERGEWONING van het voormalige schoolcomplex van de Rijks H.B.S. "Simon Vestdijk" te Harlingen is in 1926 gebouwd, tegelijkertijd met de bouw van de school en is een essentieel onderdeel van het ontwerp. De woning is in de stijl van het Zakelijk Impressionisme gebouwd, naar ontwerp van de architect Joseph Crouwel jr. Het exterieur komt in aanmerking voor bescherming van rijkswege, het interieur niet. Aan de noord- en aan de zuidkant van het gebouw liggen twee kleine tuinen, die bij de conciergewoning hoorden.
Omschrijving
De conciërgewoning is in gele bakstenen opgetrokken en heeft een T-vormige plattegrond. De T omvat drie bouwvolumes waarvan één, de middenpoot, loodrecht op de Oosterstraat is geplaatst en de overige twee parallel aan de Oosterstraat. De middenpoot is twee bouwlagen hoog is en de overige twee één. Zij worden alle drie gedekt door een schilddak met rode ongeglazuurde Hollandse pannen. Een brede schoorsteen bevindt op de noordelijke dakhelling van de middenpoot. Licht naar voren springende gemetselde vlakken decoreren de gevels. In de eerste bouwlaag van de middenpoot zitten in de noordgevel twee vierkante vensters en in de zuidgevel één. In de westgevel drie vierkante vensters. Alle vensters zijn enkelruits. In de de zuidgevel van de tweede bouwlaag bevinden zich, net onder het uitstekende dak, drie rechthoekige enkelruitvensters en in de noordgevel twee. In de zuidelijke zijpoot zijn, onder een loggia steunend op één bakstenen pilaar, een tuindeur en twee enkelruitsvensters geplaatst. Een venster is ook in de west- en in de oostgevel geplaatst. In de zuidgevel zitten drie vierkante enkelruitsvensters. De houten voordeur bevindt zich in de noordelijke zijpoot.

The CARETAKER'S DWELLING of the former school complex of the State H.B.S. "Simon Vestdijk" at Harlingen was built in 1926, at the same time as the construction of the school, and is an essential part of the design. The caretaker's dwelling is built of yellow brick and has a T-shaped floor plan.
