Inleiding
LIJKENHUIS behorende tot de Algemene Begraafplaats te Harlingen. Het lijkenhuis doet tegenwoordig dienst als Columbarium. Het is een tempelvormig gebouw, geplaatst op een uivormige uitdijing van de as, die vanaf het toegangshek naar het westen loopt. Het gebouw is gelijktijdig met de aanleg van de begraafplaats rond 1865 gebouwd in de stijl van het Neo-classicisme.
Omschrijving
Lijkenhuis in de vorm van een tempel. Het gebouw is oost-west gericht en staat op een fors basement, dat is opgetrokken uit gele bakstenen; de west-, oost- en noordgevels zijn voorzien van respectievelijk een houten deur met nieuwe ommetseling en een segmentboogvenster; trap van vijf treden naar de ingangsdeur aan oostzijde. Op elk van de vier hoeken van het basement staan drie houten Toscaanse zuilen. De houten cella heeft aan de zuidzijde een dubbele houten deur met twee gietijzeren sierroosters. Het geheel wordt gedekt door een rieten tentdak met in het midden een hoge bekroning in de vorm van een obelisk. In het basement staan houten banken opgeslagen die mogelijk nog bij de oude inrichting horen.
Waardering
Het Neoclassicistische lijkenhuis, behorende tot het complex van de Algemene Begraafplaats te Harlingen uit ca. 1865, is van cultuurhistorisch en architectuurhistorisch belang:

MORTUARY CHAPEL belonging to the General Cemetery of Harlingen. The mortuary chapel nowadays serves as a Columbarium. It is a temple-shaped building, placed on an egg-shaped widening of the axis, which runs from the entrance gate towards the west. The building was constructed at the same time as the layout of the cemetery around 1865 in the style of Neo-classicism.
Description
Mortuary chapel in the form of a temple. The building is oriented east-west and stands on a substantial basement, which is built from yellow bricks; the west, east and north facades are provided respectively with a wooden door with new repointing and a segmental arched window; flight of five steps to the entrance door on the east side. On each of the four corners of the basement stand three wooden Tuscan columns. The wooden cella has on the south side a double wooden door with two cast-iron ornamental grilles. The whole is covered by a thatched tent roof with in the middle a high crest in the form of an obelisk. In the basement wooden benches are stored which possibly still belong to the old furnishings.

The Neoclassical mortuary chapel, belonging to the complex of the General Cemetery of Harlingen from c. 1865, is of cultural-historical and architectural-historical significance:
