Omschrijving stadsvilla Slotlaan nr. 31.
Inleiding:
Half vrijstaande STADSVILLA aan de Slotlaan, iets terugliggend ten opzichte van de rooilijn achter smeedijzeren hekwerk, gebouwd rond 1910 naar ontwerp van C. Bruijnzeel en zonen in eclectische, op het Hollands Classicisme geïnspireerde trant.
Omschrijving:
De uit twee bouwlagen bestaande stadsvilla is boven een hardstenen plint opgetrokken in baksteen op een rechthoekige plattegrond, met achter het gevelfronton een laag zadeldak. De voorgevel is gepleisterd.
De wit gepleisterde rustica gevel wordt op klassieke wijze -in kolossale orde- verticaal geleed door vier pilasters met composiet kapitelen. De vier rechthoekige schuifvensters met achtruitsverdeling op de begane grond zijn voorzien van natuurstenen dorpels en verfraaid met frontons. De ingang, houten deur met profiel en gesneden decoraties in de middelste travee, te bereiken via natuurstenen treden, is omlijst met pilasters met kapitelen in composiete orde. Hierboven een hoofdgestel waarop een motief met twee liggende zeeslangen.
De vijf rechthoekige schuifvensters van de verdieping hebben natuurstenen dorpels en kroonlijsten en eveneens een achtruitsverdeling.
Het fronton rust op een architraaf met boven de pilasters rozetvormige sierankers. Het tympaan, gevat in geprofileerde houten lijst met klossen, bevat in het midden een rond venster voorzien van Davidstervormige onderverdeling en is verder versierd met bloem-fruitguirlandes in Empirestijl.
De achterzijde is vrij sober, met beneden de serre over de gehele breedte van de gevel. Op de eerste verdieping wordt het gevelvlak doorbroken door een ronde erker.
In de vrijstaande rechter zijgevel bevindt zich ter hoogte van de eerste verdieping een hoog meerledig getoogd venster.

Description:
The city villa, consisting of two storeys, is erected above a hardstone plinth in brick on a rectangular plan, with a low gabled roof behind the facade pediment. The front facade is plastered.
The white plastered rusticated facade is articulated vertically in classical manner—in colossal order—by four pilasters with composite capitals. The four rectangular sash windows with transom subdivision on the ground floor are furnished with natural stone sills and embellished with pediments. The entrance, wooden door with moulding and carved decoration in the middle bay, accessed via natural stone steps, is framed with pilasters with capitals of composite order. Above it a main cornice on which a motif with two recumbent sea serpents.
The five rectangular sash windows of the first floor have natural stone sills and cornices and likewise transom subdivision.
The pediment rests on an architrave with, above the pilasters, rosette-shaped ornamental wall anchors. The tympanum, set in moulded wooden frame with blocks, contains in the centre a round window furnished with Star-of-David-shaped subdivision and is further decorated with flower and fruit garlands in Empire style.
The rear side is relatively plain, with below the conservatory spanning the entire width of the facade. On the first floor the facade surface is broken by a round bay window.
On the free-standing right side facade, at the level of the first floor, there is a tall multi-part segmented arch window.
Valuation:
City villa executed in neo-Dutch Classicism with well-preserved detailing, of general importance due to architectural and cultural-historical value, and also significant due to its setting. Furthermore representative of the facade architecture work of C. Bruijnzeel.
