Inleiding
In 1917 naar ontwerp van J.M. van der Mey in sobere Amsterdamse Schooltrant sprongsgewijs opgetrokken reeks van vijf ATELIERWONINGEN op een inpandig terrein, toegankelijk door een poort in de Jacob Obrechtstraat tussen de nrs. 55 en 67. Opdrachtgever was de NV Bouwmaatschappij 'De Lairesse'.
N.B. Sommige deur- en raampartijen zijn later gewijzigd.
Omschrijving
Op een binnenterrein gesitueerde reeks van vijf atelierwoningen ter hoogte van twee bouwlagen opgetrokken in donkerbruine baksteen, onder een deels houten en deels natuurstenen daklijst waarboven een plat dak. Elke atelierwoning is opgetrokken op een nagenoeg vierkante plattegrond en heeft op het noorden een naar binnen toe teruglopend en door houten roeden verdeeld achtruits atelierraam uitlopend in een geprofileerde gootlijst. De door het teruglopende atelierraam links en rechts vrijkomende muurdelen zijn beide voorzien van een bewerkte houten beschotting. Elke atelierwoning is in oorsprong aan de linkerzijde voorzien van een teruggerooide travee die door een hoger liggend plat dak wordt gedekt met een rechthoekige houten deur waarin een tweeruitsraam. Boven de deur een rechte luifel met geprofileerde lijst met daarboven weer een drieruits bovenlicht.
Links onder elk atelierraam in oorsprong een gekoppeld kruisvenster met houten kozijnen met draairamen en rechts een kleiner venster met eveneens een houten kozijn en draairamen.
De gevel wordt hier en daar verlevendigd door decoratief metselwerk.
Waardering
Reeks van atelierwoningen van belang vanwege de architectuurhistorische en typologische waarde. Eveneens van belang binnen het oeuvre van J.M. van der Mey.

In 1917, according to a design by J.M. van der Mey in sober Amsterdam School style, a staggered series of five atelier-dwellings was erected on an internal site, accessible through a gate in the Jacob Obrechtstraat between nos. 55 and 67. The client was the NV Bouwmaatschappij 'De Lairesse'.
N.B. Some door and window sections were later altered.
Description
A series of five atelier-dwellings situated on an internal site erected to a height of two storeys in dark brown brick, under a partly wooden and partly natural stone roof line above which is a flat roof. Each atelier-dwelling is erected on a nearly square ground plan and has on the north side a stepped-back studio window with wooden glazing bars, ending in a moulded gutter line. The wall sections released on the left and right by the stepped-back studio window are both provided with a worked wooden boarding. Each atelier-dwelling originally has on the left side a stepped-back bay which is covered by a higher flat roof with a rectangular wooden door in which a two-light window. Above the door a straight canopy with moulded list with above it again a three-light fanlight.
Originally below each studio window on the left a coupled cross window with wooden frames with casements and on the right a smaller window with likewise a wooden frame and casements.
The facade is here and there enlivened by decorative brickwork.
Valuation
Series of atelier-dwellings of importance due to its architectural-historical and typological value. Also of importance within the oeuvre of J.M. van der Mey.
