Inleiding
De in 1899-1900 tot stand gekomen VILLA is in opdracht van J. Bakker ontworpen door L. Beirer en werd gebouwd in overgangsarchitectuur met invloeden van Art Nouveau.
NB. In 1925 werd door H.D. Tabak in opdracht van H.P. Doodeheefver de veranda/serre aan de achtergevel gewijzigd; de doorgang tot de daarachter gelegen tuinkamer werd aanzienlijk verbreed. In 1927 werd door Tabak in opdracht van Doodeheefver de bestaande doorgang tot de serre op de eerste verdieping gewijzigd.
Omschrijving
Op een min of meer rechthoekig grondplan gelegen bakstenen vrijstaande villa bestaande uit vier bouwlagen: sousterrain, hoofdverdieping, tweede verdieping en kapverdieping. Het dak is schuinoplopend plat en wordt met rode pannen gedekt. De voorgevel aan de Jacob Obrechtstraat (de voormalige Paviljoenstraat) heeft een monumentale entree bestaande uit een natuurstenen trap en portiek met toegangsdeur met zijvenster, beide met hoge 28-ruits bovenlichten. Kleurig uitgevoerde rondboognissen zijn verbonden aan een vrije latei. Het risalerende muurdeel boven de toegang heeft een tweetal vensters met tuimelend bovenraam, een driepasvormige vensternis, polychrome decoratieve tegeltableaux met onder meer florale motieven en portretten en eindigt in een puntgevel met sectieltegels en natuurstenen lijst met rozet. Het rechts naastliggende muurdeel heeft vensters met schuiframen en meerruits bovenlichten.
Verder vier decoratieve tegeltableaux en uit gele en rode baksteen samengesteld decoratief metselwerk in horizontale en verticale banden. Dakkapel met houtwerk en hijsbalk.
De overhoeks geplaatste rechthoekige erker over alle bouwlagen op de NO.-hoek heeft rondom vensters met schuiframen en wordt besloten met een Frans dak gedekt met leien en van helmdaken voorziene dakkapellen en een piron. De zijgevel aan de Vondelparkzijde (N.) wordt gekenmerkt door aan de voorgevel identieke decoratieve elementen als geel-rode baksteenbanden, tegeltableaux in muurnissen, rondbogen, puntgevel met natuurstenen lijst en rozet en rondboogfries met overstek en dakkapel. Vierzijdige erkeruitbouw met tentdak op de hoofdverdieping en figuratieve tegeltableaux, waarschijnlijk bij De Distel vervaardigd, wellicht naar ontwerp van Cornelis de Bruin.
De zijgevel aan de zuidzijde is met enkele decoratieve geelrode gemetselde banden sober van uiterlijk en gesloten van karakter.
De achtergevel wordt overheerst door een zevenzijdige erker op de hoofdverdieping met een bovengelegen balcon met hek en een ondergelegen veranda op tuinniveau.
Waardering
Villa van algemeen belang vanwege zijn architectuurhistorische waarde. De markante ligging aan de zuidelijke rand van het Vondelpark vormt een belangrijke toegevoegde waarde. Verder van belang als onderdeel van het enige in Amsterdam als zodanig gebouwde villapark. De detaillering en de ornamentiek zijn gaaf bewaard gebleven. Met name de tegeltableaux in Art Nouveau zijn waardevol.

Description
On a more or less rectangular ground plan situated brick detached villa consisting of four storeys: basement, principal storey, second storey and attic storey. The roof is pitched flat and is covered with red tiles. The front facade on the Jacob Obrechtstraat (the former Paviljoenstraat) has a monumental entrance consisting of a natural stone staircase and portico with entrance door with side window, both with high 28-pane fanlights. Colourfully executed round arch niches are connected to a free lintel. The projecting wall section above the entrance has two windows with tumbling top sash, a three-foil shaped window recess, polychrome decorative tile tableaux with among others floral motifs and portraits and ends in a pointed gable with seccional tiles and natural stone cornice with rosette. The wall section to the right adjacent has windows with sash windows and multi-pane fanlights.
Furthermore four decorative tile tableaux and decorative brickwork composed of yellow and red brick in horizontal and vertical bands. Roof dormer with woodwork and lifting beam.
The rectangular corner bay placed at the NE corner over all storeys has windows with sash windows all around and is topped with a French roof covered with slates and provided with hip roof dormers and a chimney pot. The side facade on the Vondelpark side (N.) is characterized by decorative elements identical to the front facade such as yellow-red brick bands, tile tableaux in wall recesses, round arches, pointed gable with natural stone cornice and rosette and round arch frieze with overhang and roof dormer. Four-sided bay projection with hipped roof on the principal storey and figurative tile tableaux, probably made by De Distel, possibly after a design by Cornelis de Bruin.
The side facade on the south side is sober in appearance and closed in character with only some decorative yellow-red brickwork bands.
The rear facade is dominated by a seven-sided bay on the principal storey with an overlying balcony with railing and an underlying veranda at garden level.
Valuation
Villa of general importance due to its architectural-historical value. The striking location on the southern edge of the Vondelpark forms an important added value. Furthermore of importance as part of the only villa park built as such in Amsterdam. The detailing and ornamentation have been well preserved. In particular the tile tableaux in Art Nouveau are valuable.
