Inleiding

Introduction

Wooden house erected around 1927-1928 in connection with the Zuiderzee Works, named "DE OPPER", which served as the director's residence. The building is located on the south side of the Overtoom, with the front facade facing north-east. The northern side facade is thereby situated parallel to the street. To the south of the house a one-storey high wooden barn has been built under a flat roof.

The original wooden interior layout is still completely intact. To the south-east of the building is an air raid shelter.

The former address was Oude Haven 1, as evidenced by the old house number to the right of the front door.

Description

The building is constructed on a rectangular ground plan, provided with a concrete foundation and comprises two storeys and an attic floor. The start of the roof structure is located halfway up the first storey. The house is entirely constructed of wood under a gabled roof covered with flat Frisian tiles. The ridge is placed parallel to the road. All facades are finished with a tar layer.

The front facade (NE) is provided on the ground floor to the left of centre with a hardwood door with to the left of this a single casement window with a three-pane horizontal glazing bars. To the right of the door is a double casement window, whereby each frame has a four-pane horizontal glazing bars. Both windows on the ground floor have shutters, which are painted in the colours green, red and white. The planks in the facade wall are here laid horizontally.

On the first storey two symmetrically placed windows are fitted, which are identical to the right window on the ground floor. On the first storey the shutters are absent. Between these two windows a nameplate is hung with the text "DE OPPER". The planks in the facade wall are here laid vertically. The same applies to the facade at the height of the attic floor.

The gabled end is finished along the top with wind braces.

The northern side facade is provided on the ground floor with two windows, which are identical to the right window on the ground floor of the front facade (NE), including the shutters. The facade planks are here placed horizontally. The roof panel on the north side is broken through in the middle by a brick chimney.

The rear facade (SW) has on the right on the ground floor a window that is identical to the right window on the ground floor of the front facade, including the shutters. On the left there is in the facade a double casement door with per door a four-pane glazing bars. The facade treatment of the entire rear facade and the layout of the first storey and the attic floor are identical to the front facade.

The southern side facade is provided on the ground floor on the left side with a single four-pane window with a horizontal glazing bars with a shutter. To the right of this is a double casement window with a three-pane glazing bars; the window is fitted with shutters. Adjacent to this window the one-storey high barn is placed diagonally against the facade. In the facade on this side (SW) a door is fitted which connects both with the kitchen and with the barn. On the other side of the barn there is precisely opposite the door on the south-west side yet another door.

The side facade of the house (S), which after the extension still runs a distance further, is provided on the ground floor with a tilting window with to the left of this another small casement window with a two-pane horizontal glazing bars. Above this on the first storey a double casement window is fitted, with per frame a two-pane horizontal glazing bars. Just below the roof edge is a small platform placed, as a dovecote.

At right angles to the side facade and in line with the front facade (NE) stands a fence, with a door in it. This fence connects to the barn, in which on this side (NE), just below the roof edge, two windows are fitted, which are identical to the window on the first storey of the southern side facade.

Valuation

The wooden dwelling house is of general importance because of its relationship with the Zuiderzee Works on account of its cultural-historical and architectural-historical value and on account of its rarity value as being a well-preserved example of early 20th-century timber construction in Medemblik.
