Inleiding
Dit WOONHUIS werd in opdracht van H.J. Fernhout in 1936 in Buitenpost gebouwd door architecten Kalma en A. Witteveen en is een typerend voorbeeld van jaren-'30 Interbellum-architectuur. Het hoekpand, grenzend aan de Stationsstraat en de Julianalaan, is gesitueerd in de noordelijke lintvormige uitbreiding naar het spoorwegstation. Een laag halfsteens gemetseld muurtje vormt de begrenzing met de openbare weg. De entree bevindt zich aan de op de Stationstraat georiënteerde gevel. In 1958 werd het huis uitgebreid met een garage. In 1969 werd het woonhuis, inmiddels met artsenpraktijk, uitgebreid; deze latere aanbouwen, aan de noord- en westzijde van het pand, worden van bescherming van rijkswege uitgesloten.
Omschrijving
Het woonhuis van twee bouwlagen is gebouwd op rechthoekige grondslag. Het uitkragende schilddak is gedekt met zwart geglazuurde Romeinse pannen. Het pand is opgetrokken in bruinrode handvorm Waalsteen met terugliggende lintvoeg en platvolle stootvoeg. De doorlopende vensterpartijen op de begane grond bestaan uit aan elkaar geschakelde glas-in-loodramen met opvallend brede kozijnen. Boven een rechthoekige en een grotere gebogen erker onder uitkragende latei bevinden zich gemetselde balkons op de verdieping. Het ronde balkon heeft aan weerszijden van de balkondeuren uitgemetselde sierbanden en een vlaggemast aan de balustrade. De originele geverniste rondboogdeur met glas-in-lood zijlichten bevindt zich onder een luifel aan ijzeren stangen aan de noordgevel. De verticale drieruits glas-in-lood traplichten beslaan de hele gevelwand boven deze deur. Aan de westzijde is een achteringang naar de bijkeuken, waarop een droogplat is met houten hekwerk. In de dakschilden zijn twee hoge gemetselde schoorstenen waarbij in het zuidschild aan weerszijden daarvan een kajuit.
Waardering
Het woonhuis, in 1936 gebouwd in de lintvormige uitbreiding naar hetspoorwegstation van Buitenpost, is van cultuurhistorisch en architectonisch belang:

Introduction
This DWELLING was built in 1936 in Buitenpost on the commission of H.J. Fernhout by architects Kalma and A. Witteveen and is a typical example of 1930s Interbellum architecture. The corner property, adjoining the Stationsstraat and the Julianalaan, is situated in the northern ribbon-like expansion towards the railway station. A low half-brick mortared wall forms the boundary with the public road. The entrance is located on the facade facing the Stationstraat. In 1958 the house was extended with a garage. In 1969 the dwelling, by then containing a medical practice, was extended; these later additions, on the north and west sides of the property, are excluded from national monument protection.
Description
The two-storey dwelling is built on a rectangular foundation. The projecting hipped roof is covered with black glazed Roman tiles. The property is built of reddish-brown handmoulded Flemish brick with recessed joint mortar and flush butt mortar. The continuous window sections on the ground floor consist of adjoining leaded-glass windows with conspicuously wide frames. Above a rectangular and a larger curved bay window under a projecting lintel are brick-built balconies on the upper storey. The round balcony has ornamental brick bands on either side of the balcony doors and a flagstaff on the balustrade. The original varnished round-arched door with leaded-glass sidelights is located under a canopy on iron rods on the north facade. The vertical three-light leaded-glass stairwell windows span the entire gable wall above this door. On the west side is a rear entrance to the scullery, which has a drying platform with wooden railings. In the roof slopes are two high brick chimneys, with a cabin on either side of the southern roof.
Appreciation
The dwelling, built in 1936 in the ribbon-like expansion towards Buitenpost railway station, is of cultural-historical and architectural significance:
