Inleiding
Het statige WOONHUIS voor een arts met aangebouwd koetshuis is in 1862 gebouwd door houthandelaar-aannemer Kuipers te Buitenpost. Het pand is in eclectische trant gebouwd in opdracht van dokter Greidanus, de eerste huisarts te Buitenpost. Hij is de auteur van het autobiografische werk: "Een dorpsdokter uit de Friese Wouden vertelt". Het ruim teruggerooide koetshuis is tegen de westzijde van het woonhuis aangebouwd. Aan de voorzijde wordt de tuin, met rhododendrons en vlaggemast, van de weg gescheiden door een heg. In de royale tuin aan de achterzijde staat een oude solitaire beuk. In 1971 heeft er een inpandige verbouwing plaatsgevonden op de zolderverdieping waarbij daklichten zijn aangebracht. De geveltop aan achterzijde van het pand is opnieuw opgebouwd en de gevelindeling aan de achterzijde gewijzigd.
Omschrijving
Het symmetrische woonhuis is een pand van één bouwlaag op een rechthoekige plattegrond. Het afgeplatte schilddak is gedekt met zwart geglazuurde friese golfpannen. Het opgaand muurwerk bestaat uit roodbruine handvorm bakstenen op een gepleisterde plint. De gevels worden rondom afgesloten door een brede geprofileerde daklijst onder de gootlijst. Opvallend zijn de lisenen met diamantkoppen en rusticapaneeltjes op de gevelhoeken en aan weerszijden van het risalerende middendeel van de voorgevel.
Het pand is vijf traveeën breed; de houten vensters zijn licht getoogd en hebben een brede geprofileerde omlijsting met sluitsteen. Tussen de onder- en bovendorpels van de vensters zijn vier gepleisterde banden.
De middelste travee met de entree heeft eenzelfde omlijsting rond de oorspronkelijke, dubbele paneeldeur en een licht getoogd bovenlicht voorzien van gietijzeren siersmeedwerk. Recht boven de entree is het risaliet zodanig uitgemetseld dat veeleer sprake is van een 'pseudo-lichtbeuk'. Het risaliet wordt beëindigd door een deels gepleisterde tympaanvormige gevelafsluiting op gecanneluurde pilasters. Tussen de twee pilasters zijn twee rondbogige openslaande dubbele balkondeuren met geprofileerde omlijsting en een vernieuwd balkon; aan de zijgevels versierde gootlijsten.
In het redelijk oorspronkelijke interieur van de artsenwoning zijn ondermeer stucplafonds met bloemmotieven en de kamerblinden nog aanwezig. In de hal met rondbogige omlijste doorgangen is een marmeren vloer en kaarsnissen.
Het koetshuis aan de westzijde heeft een zadeldak met decoratieve windveer en makelaar. In de westelijke zijgevel zijn halfronde stalvensters; in de geveltop een melkmeisje. De dubbele koetshuisdeuren zijn origineel. Het interieur van het vm. koetshuis is in redelijk oorspronkelijke staat.
Waardering
De woning van het zgn. rentenierswoningstype in eclectische bouwtrant met aangebouwd koetshuis is van algemeen cultuurhistorisch en architectonisch belang:
- als karakteristiek voorbeeld van herenhuisbebouwing in de straat,
- vanwege de visuele gaafheid en kwaliteit van het woonhuis met koetshuis in het straatbeeld,
- vanwege de hoge mate van esthetische kwaliteit van het ontwerp,

Introduction
The stately RESIDENCE for a doctor with adjoining carriage house was built in 1862 by timber merchant-contractor Kuipers at Buitenpost. The building was constructed in eclectic manner on commission from doctor Greidanus, the first general practitioner at Buitenpost. He is the author of the autobiographical work: "A Village Doctor from the Frisian Woods Tells". The generously set-back carriage house is built adjoining the west side of the residence. On the front side, the garden, with rhododendrons and flagpole, is separated from the road by a hedge. In the spacious rear garden stands an old solitary beech. In 1971 internal renovation took place on the top floor where roof windows were installed. The gable top on the rear of the building was rebuilt and the gable arrangement on the rear side was altered.
Description
The symmetrical residence is a building of one storey on a rectangular floor plan. The flattened hipped roof is covered with black glazed Frisian corrugated tiles. The upstanding masonry consists of reddish-brown hand-moulded bricks on a plastered plinth. The facades are finished all around with a broad moulded drip moulding below the gutter line. Notable are the pilaster strips with diamond heads and rusticated panel work on the gable corners and on either side of the projecting central section of the front facade.
The building is five bays wide; the wooden windows are lightly arched and have a broad moulded surround with voussoir. Between the upper and lower window sills are four plastered bands.
The central bay with the entrance has the same surround around the original, double panel door and a lightly arched fanlight provided with cast-iron ornamental ironwork. Directly above the entrance the risalit is built out in such a way that one might rather speak of a 'pseudo-light shaft'. The risalit is terminated by a partly plastered tympanum-shaped gable finish on fluted pilasters. Between the two pilasters are two round-arched opening double balcony doors with moulded surround and a renewed balcony; on the side facades decorated gutter lines.
In the reasonably original interior of the doctor's residence are among others stucco ceilings with floral motifs and room blinds still present. In the hall with round-arched enclosed passages is a marble floor and candle niches.
The carriage house on the west side has a gabled roof with decorative weathervane and bracket. In the western side gable are semicircular stable windows; in the gable top a milkmaid figure. The double carriage house doors are original. The interior of the former carriage house is in reasonably original state.
Valuation
The residence of the so-called rentier dwelling type in eclectic building style with adjoining carriage house is of general cultural-historical and architectural importance:
- as a characteristic example of mansion development in the street,
- because of the visual integrity and quality of the residence with carriage house in the streetscape,
- because of the high degree of aesthetic quality of the design,
