Inleiding
Woonhuis uit 1685 van het oorspronkelijke boerderijcomplex, liggend op circa vijftien meter afstand van de Oudemolensedijk (die tot 1583 fungeerde als zeewering) en behorend tot de `derde 's-Heeren Hoeve, een van de vijftien pachtboerderijen die de markiezin van Bergen op Zoom stichtte na de inpoldering in 1548 van `Vrouw Jacobsland', later genoemd de `Oude Fijnaartse Polder' of `Oud-Fijnaart'. Het woonhuis werd gebouwd in opdracht van Joost Janse Knook, toen deze de hoeve in 1685 pachtte en volgens het bestek werd de bouw uitgevoerd door Basstiaens Leendertsen. De boerderij was tussen 1801-1809 in het bezit van het `Bataafsch Gouvernement'.
Omschrijving
Eenlaags woonhuis, deels onderkelderd en voorzien van een zadeldak tussen tuitgevels. Gebouwd van IJsselsteen, eind 19de eeuw gepleisterd in blokverband. Ter weerszijde van de langsgevel aan de straat telkens twee vensters (vrijwel alle vensters zijn op kitscherige wijze vernieuwd, de kozijnen zijn echter merendeels nog oud); zuidelijke zijgevel voorzien van jaartalankers `1685'. De indeling (vijf traveeen) bestaat uit een globaal symmetrische opzet met in het midden een doorlopende smalle gang (deel noordelijke wand gesloopt): tongewelfde kelder met opkamer achter de voorste kamer aan de noordzijde. Van de twee oorspronkelijke schouwen zijn alleen nog de schoorstenen met rookkamers aanwezig op de kapverdieping. Balklagen oorspronkelijk, evenals de kap: schaargebint met kromstijlen (korbeels vervangen) en nokgebint.
Waardering
Van monumentaal belang als karakteristiek en in belangrijke mate gaaf bewaard voorbeeld van een 17de-eeuws woonhuis van een boerderijcomplex in de kleipolders van noordwest Brabant. De situering is van belang vanwege de landschappelijke en bestuurlijke ontwikkeling.

Residential house from 1685 of the original farmstead complex, situated at approximately fifteen metres from the Oudemolensedijk (which functioned as a sea wall until 1583) and belonging to the 'derde 's-Heeren Hoeve, one of fifteen leasehold farms that the Marchioness of Bergen op Zoom established after the reclamation in 1548 of 'Vrouw Jacobsland', later called the 'Oude Fijnaartse Polder' or 'Oud-Fijnaart'. The residential house was built on the orders of Joost Janse Knook, when he leased the farm in 1685 and according to the specification the construction was carried out by Basstiaens Leendertsen. The farm was owned by the 'Bataafsch Gouvernement' between 1801-1809.
Description
Single-storey residential house, partly cellared and provided with a gabled roof between spout gables. Built of IJsselsteen, rendered in block bond in the late 19th century. On either side of the long street-facing facade two windows each (virtually all windows have been renewed in a kitschy manner, however the frames are for the most part still original); southern side facade provided with date anchors '1685'. The layout (five bays) consists of a roughly symmetrical arrangement with a continuous narrow passage running through the centre (part of northern wall demolished): barrel-vaulted cellar with upper room behind the front room on the north side. Of the two original fireplaces only the chimney stacks with smoke chambers remain on the roof space. Floor beams original, as is the roof truss: collar-tie truss with curved struts (corbels replaced) and ridge truss.
Valuation
Of monumental importance as a characteristic and substantially well-preserved example of a 17th-century residential house of a farmstead complex in the clay polders of north-west Brabant. The situation is of significance because of the landscape and administrative development.
