Inleiding

Description
Introduction
The separate CATTLE SHED, which originally contained two labourers' dwellings, forms part of the farm complex with the villa. The cattle shed was designed in 1927 by C.R. de Boer and G.M. van Manen from Drachten and built in 1928 on behalf of J.I. Douma from Opeinde. The orientation of the cattle shed is adapted to the direction of the field division structure. Cattle shed and villa no longer form an operational unit; the cattle shed is now an independent agricultural enterprise with dwelling. The stalls were in 1928 extremely modern due to the Dutch stalling with lorry track in the feeding passage, the application of trough vaults above the stalls and the presence of electricity. The farm includes the garden with a former summerhouse in the corner between the villa and the barn and a pond. The cattle shed was in 1979 connected by means of a doorway to a free-stall barn. This extension falls outside national monument protection due to its slight architectural significance.
Description
The cattle shed has a rectangular floor plan and consists of one storey with a steep half-hipped roof with nearly vertical half-hipped ends, covered with thatch.
In the western roof slope are four roof dormers. On the ridge a chimney and two ventilation boxes, covered with thatch. The facades are constructed in brown sintered bricks in Norwegian bond on a clinker stone base course. The south facade consists of a first storey under a concrete lintel; a second storey in the roof, from the window sill of the four-light windows covered with tar-painted wood on clamps, an interior balcony with a planter box on the facade; the half-hipped end with a recumbent attic window. The window arrangement of the first storey consists of two three-light windows on either side of a two-light window above a provision cellar window. On the left a garage, formerly closed with a double wooden door. The eastern and northern facades are partially altered. The western side facade still contains the original galvanised iron stable windows and access doors.
The interior of the stable is structurally little changed. Present are inter alia the horse stalls and the Dutch cattle stalling with feeding passage in the middle. The ceiling of the cattle stalling consists of trough vaults. Trough vaults are also present in the garage. The layout of the dwelling section is altered.
Valuation The cattle shed from 1928, forming part of the former farm complex, is of general cultural-historical and architectural-historical importance:
- due to the special significance of the complex for the history of farmhouse construction, both socio-economically and typologically,
- as an essential component of the complex,
- due to the high-quality aesthetic quality of the design,
- due to the special use of materials and ornamentation in harmony with the associated villa,
- due to the high degree of integrity of the exterior.
