Inleiding
Prominent in de gesloten wand van de Maastrichterlaan gesitueerd POSTKANTOOR MET BOVENWONING (voormalige directiewoning), met enigszins teruggerooide uitbouw onder plat dak aan de rechterzijde en twee uitbouwen dwars op de achterzijde. Het geheel is gebouwd in 1906, in een overgangsarchitectuur met verwijzingen naar de chaletstijl. Het portiek met de toegang naar de voormalige directeurswoning is gewijzigd en van een hekwerk voorzien.
De na-oorlogse aanbouwen aan de achterzijde vallen buiten de bescherming.
Omschrijving
Parallel aan de straat gelegen, twee bouwlagen tellend pand op U-vormige plattegrond en uitbouw onder plat aan de rechterzijde, opgetrokken op lage natuurstenen plint uit deels witgepleisterde baksteen en gedekt door respectievelijk een wolfdak met dakkapel met vierruits raamverdeling en schoorsteen, een schilddak (uitbouw aan achterzijde links) en een gebroken kap (uitbouw aan achterzijde rechts); alle kappen gedekt door kruispannen en met aanzienlijk overstek op consoles.
De vier assen brede voorgevel met doorgetrokken topgevel met houten vakwerk onder zadeldak is asymmetrisch ingedeeld en heeft op de begane grond alsook op de witgepleisterde verdieping enkele en 'dubbele' houten kruiskozijnen met en zonder roedenverdeling (15- en 18-ruitsverdeling) in de bovenlichten onder hardstenen latei en halfsteens ontlastingsboog. Vensterlijsten met profielstenen, hardstenen aanzetstenen en dorpels; gewijzigde toegang onder éénsteens rondboog naar de voormalige directeurswoning. De rechterzijgevel gepleisterd en met deels uitgemetselde schoorsteen. De achtergevel eveneens gepleisterd en voorzien van vensters met éénsteens strekken.
De platgedekte aanbouw aan rechterzijde met dubbele houten toegangsdeur met 24-ruits bovenlicht onder 1-steens rondboog heeft eenbloktanddecoratie en is afgezet door een opengewerkte bakstenen borstwering.
In het INTERIEUR van de bovenwoning is nog van belang de trappartij met deels gesmede, deels geklonken balustrade.
Waardering
Het postkantoor met bovenwoning aan de Maastrichterlaan is van cultuurhistorisch belang als uitdrukking van een bestuurlijke ontwikkeling en van groot belang als uitdrukking van een typologische, streekgebonden ontwikkeling.
Het pand is van architectuurhistorische waarde vanwege de esthetische kwaliteit van het ontwerp, het materiaalgebruik en de streekgebonden detaillering en van typologisch belang wegens de gecombineerde functie van postkantoor en directeurswoning.

Prominent in the closed wall of the Maastrichterlaan situated POST OFFICE WITH UPPER DWELLING (former director's residence), with somewhat set-back extension under flat roof on the right side and two extensions transverse to the rear. The whole was built in 1906, in a transitional architecture with references to the chalet style. The porch with access to the former director's residence has been altered and fitted with ironwork.
Post-war extensions to the rear fall outside the protection.
Description
Parallel to the street, two-storey building on U-shaped floor plan and extension under flat roof on the right side, erected on low natural stone plinth of partly whitewashed brick and roofed respectively by a half-hipped roof with dormer window with four-pane glazing bars and chimney, a hipped roof (extension to rear left) and a broken roof (extension to rear right); all roofs covered by pan and roll tiles and with considerable overhang on consoles.
The four-bay wide front facade with protruding gable with wooden framing under gabled roof is asymmetrically laid out and has on the ground floor as well as on the whitewashed upper storey several and 'double' wooden cross windows with and without glazing bars (15- and 18-pane glazing) in the fanlights under hard stone lintels and half-brick relieving arch. Window frames with profile stones, hard stone corner stones and sills; altered entrance under one-brick round arch to the former director's residence. The right side facade plastered and with partly mortared chimney. The rear facade likewise plastered and fitted with windows with one-brick stretchers.
The flat-roofed extension on the right side with double wooden entrance door with 24-pane fanlight under 1-brick round arch has simple tooth decoration and is bordered by an open brick parapet.
In the INTERIOR of the upper dwelling, the staircase with partly wrought, partly riveted balustrade is still of importance.

The post office with upper dwelling on the Maastrichterlaan is of cultural-historical importance as an expression of administrative development and of great importance as an expression of a typological, regionally characteristic development.
