Inleiding
WOONHUIS, vrijstaand gesitueerd in de uit overwegend eind negentiende-eeuwse bebouwing bestaande, gesloten zuidelijke gevelwand van de Kruitlaan en gescheiden van de aangrenzende gebouwen door smalle gangen, gebouwd in verschillende fasen vanaf 1829 en 1866 in een eclectische bouwstijl. Het was een van de eerste woonhuizen op de oostelijke vestingterreinen. Oorspronkelijk was er een theekoepel en een tuinhuis bijgebouwd. Het gebouw is thans nog in gebruik als woonhuis en is inwendig aangepast met uitzondering van de hal met witmarmeren vloer en plafond met stuc decoraties.
Omschrijving
Het gebouw is opgetrokken op een rechthoekige plattegrond en telt twee bouwlagen onder een met zwarte pannen belegd schilddak. De gevel wordt afgesloten door een houten kroonlijst met een geprofileerde bakgoot. De gevels van het voorhuis zijn geheel gepleisterd en voorzien van schijnvoegen; de zijgevels zijn besmeten. Alle gevelopeningen zijn rechtgesloten en hebben geprofileerd stuc lijstwerk met kuiven. De ingang in het midden van de voorgevel heeft voordeuren met bovenlichten en gietijzeren deurroosters. Hierboven op de verdieping is een blind venster aangebracht, eveneens met geprofileerd stuc lijstwerk. De raamkozijnen op de begane grond en op de verdieping hebben een T-roedeverdeling. In de oostelijke zijgevel van de aanbouw bevinden zich zes-ruitsvensters evenals twee houten zuilen naast de openslaande tuindeuren. Zowel van binnen als van buiten zijn deze zichtbaar als half-zuilen.
Waardering
Woonhuis, met een ingetogen eclectische lijstgevel, typisch voor de tweede helft van de negentiende eeuw, van algemeen belang vanwege zijn cultuurhistorische en architectuurhistorische waarde vanwege de architectonische gaafheid van het exterieur. Bovendien is het gebouw een zeldzaam bewaard gebleven voorbeeld van de woonhuisbebouwing op de oostelijke vestingterreinen.

RESIDENTIAL HOUSE, standing freely situated in the predominantly late nineteenth-century building consisting, closed southern façade wall of the Kruitlaan and separated from the adjacent buildings by narrow passageways, built in different phases from 1829 and 1866 in an eclectic building style. It was one of the first residential houses on the eastern fortification terrains. Originally there was a tea pavilion and a garden house added. The building is currently still in use as a residential house and has been internally adapted with the exception of the hall with white marble floor and ceiling with stucco decorations.
Description
The building is constructed on a rectangular ground plan and has two storeys under a hipped roof covered with black tiles. The façade is finished with a wooden cornice with a profiled rain gutter. The façades of the front house are entirely plastered and provided with false joints; the side façades are rendered. All façade openings are straight-headed and have profiled stucco moulding with cornices. The entrance in the centre of the front façade has front doors with fanlights and cast-iron door grilles. Above this on the upper floor a blind window is installed, also with profiled stucco moulding. The window frames on the ground floor and on the upper floor have a T-glazing bars. In the eastern side façade of the extension are six-pane windows as well as two wooden columns next to the opening garden doors. Both from inside and from outside these are visible as half-columns.
Valuation
Residential house, with a restrained eclectic cornice-topped façade, typical of the second half of the nineteenth century, of general importance due to its cultural-historical and architectural-historical value due to the architectural intactness of the exterior. Furthermore, the building is a rarely preserved example of residential house construction on the eastern fortification terrains.
