Introduction TOWN HOUSE, situated on the corner of the closed, consisting of late nineteenth-century town houses northern facade of the Praediniussingel and the Emmaplein, built in 1891 after a design by architect J.P. Hazeu in a richly decorated, eclectic architectural style. The building is now in use as an office. The interior has been thoroughly remodelled and is of subsidiary importance. Description The striking building is erected on a rectangular plan and consists of a basement with two storeys under a truncated hipped roof, covered with slates in Maastricht bond. Directed towards the Emmaplein a bay window is placed diagonally up to the roof. This is crowned by a truncated bell roof above a tall round-arched window with stucco scrollwork. The facade is closed off by a frieze band with geometric ornamental brickwork and stuccoed fields with garlands. On this rests a moulded wooden gutter on a large number of brackets. In the roof slopes small cabins are incorporated, which are decorated with tympana and side pieces. The reddish-brown sauced brick facade is strongly horizontally articulated by the heavy rustication on the basement, the richly moulded cordon line and the various stuccoed lintel bands. The vertical articulation is created by means of a south-westerly projection, to which on the first storey a balcony on scrollwork consoles is hung. The front facade is four bays wide. The east facade has in the centre a projecting facade section, which is crowned by a cabin with a tympanum. The stairwell behind this is lit by three stucco-framed windows and on the storey three rose windows. The stuccoed lintel bands of the front facade are continued on the east facade. The windows on the ground floor are closed with segmental arches with drums, voussoirs and closing pieces. The entrance consists of a double, finely worked panel door in a shallow portico with a sandstone step and flanked by wrought and cast iron railings which continue on the street side. The storey windows are straight-headed with stuccoed architraves on consoles and possess relieving arches with substantial voussoirs.
