Inleiding HERENHUIS, gesitueerd in de gesloten, uit eind negentiende-eeuwse herenhuizen bestaande noordelijke gevelwand van de Praediniussingel, gebouwd in 1896 in opdracht van de Groninger aannemer/architect P. Belgraver naar eigen ontwerp in een eclectische bouwstijl. Het gebouw maakt deel uit van een ensemble van twee herenhuizen. Het gebouw is thans in gebruik als kantoor. Omschrijving Het gebouw is opgetrokken op een rechthoekige plattegrond en telt drie bouwlagen onder een afgeknot schilddak, belegd met een zwarte golfpan. De gevel wordt afgesloten door een met guirlandes versierde kroonlijst en een geprofileerde houten bakgoot, die gedragen wordt door consoles. Tegen het voordakschild is een kajuit aangebracht met stuc pilasters en wangen, die bekroond wordt door een gebogen tympaan. De gedrukte begane grond is boven een vlak afgewerkt basement uitgevoerd in stuc in gebosseerde imitatie-rusticablokken en wordt afgesloten door een zware cordonlijst. Daarboven zijn de gevels opgetrokken uit rode baksteen en verlevendigd met dorpelbanden in stuc. De verdiepingsvensters zijn rechtgesloten en aan de bovenkant voorzien van recht geprofileerd lijstwerk en ontlastingsbogen met stuc negblokken en sluitstenen; de boogtrommels zijn versierd met maaswerk van gekleurde baksteen. In het midden op de eerste verdieping zijn balkons met balustrades aangebracht, rustend op bewerkte consoles. De vensters van de bovenste verdieping hebben licht gebogen strekken met negblokken en sluitstenen met diamantkoppen. De achtergevel bezit over de volle breedte een aardige houten veranda met houten stijl- en regelwerk. Inwendig is de oorspronkelijke structuur, indeling en aankleding vrij goed bewaard gebleven. Van belang zijn onder meer het trappenhuis met bewerkte houten balusters en gietijzeren spijltjes en de geornamenteerde stuc plafonds op de bel étage. Waardering HERENHUIS, gebouwd in 1896 in een eclectische bouwstijl, typisch voor de architectuur uit het laatste kwart van de negentiende eeuw, van algemeen belang uit stedebouwkundig, cultuurhistorisch en architectuurhistorisch oogpunt als gaaf onderdeel van de hoogwaardige stedebouwkundige structuur van de singelreeks aan de zuidkant van de binnenstad van Groningen.

Introduction TOWNHOUSE, situated in the closed, consisting of late nineteenth-century townhouses northern facade of the Praediniussingel, built in 1896 on commission of the Groningen contractor/architect P. Belgraver according to his own design in an eclectic architectural style. The building forms part of an ensemble of two townhouses. The building is currently in use as an office. Description The building is constructed on a rectangular plan and comprises three storeys under an abated hipped roof, covered with black corrugated tiles. The facade is finished with a cornice decorated with garlands and a profiled wooden gutter, which is carried by consoles. Against the roof pediment a small cabin is attached with stucco pilasters and jambs, which is crowned by a curved tympanum. The recessed ground floor is executed in stucco in rusticated imitation blocks above a flat finished basement and is finished by a heavy cordon moulding. Above this the facades are built of red brick and enlivened with sill bands in stucco. The storey windows are straight-closed and provided at the top with straight profiled moulding and relieving arches with stucco voussoirs and keystones; the arch drums are decorated with tracery of coloured brick. In the centre on the first floor are balconies with balustrades installed, resting on worked consoles. The windows of the upper storey have slightly curved reveals with voussoirs and keystones with diamond heads. The rear facade has over its full width a nice wooden veranda with wooden posts and rails. Internally the original structure, layout and decoration has been fairly well preserved. Of importance are among others the stairwell with worked wooden balusters and cast-iron railings and the ornamented stucco ceilings on the bel étage. Valuation TOWNHOUSE, built in 1896 in an eclectic architectural style, typical of the architecture from the last quarter of the nineteenth century, of general importance from an urban planning, cultural-historical and architectural-historical perspective as an intact component of the high-quality urban planning structure of the canal ring on the south side of the city centre of Groningen.
