Description

Introduction MANSION, situated in the nearly closed, eastern facade wall of the Westersingel, built in circa 1885 in a richly decorated, eclectic building style. The building is presently still in use as a dwelling and office. Description The building is erected on a rectangular plan and comprises two storeys under a truncated hipped roof, laid with a black flat Frisian tile. The front facade is four bays wide and asymmetrical in layout with a somewhat projecting entrance bay. The front facade is erected in reddish-brown brick and provided with a plastered plinth and a bossed breast panel. The corners are provided with stuccoed corner blocks. The worked wooden entrance door with hardstone step and round arch-shaped fanlight is framed with stucco moulding with pilasters, moulded stucco moulding with voussoir stone. The windows on the ground floor are slightly arched closed with glazing bars and stucco recessed blocks and voussoir stones. On the storey there are also slightly arched T-windows with glazing bars, stucco recessed blocks and voussoir stones and accolade-shaped stuccowork on the breast panels. The window above the entrance door is framed with stucco moulding. The facade is finished with a wooden cornice with moulded gutter. The rear facade has on the ground floor a wooden conservatory with balcony. On the storey a three-part closed window. Internally the original structure and layout has been very well preserved. Of importance among other things the hall and corridor with white marble floor, rooms en suite with richly ornamented stucco ceilings and black marble fireplaces (in the front room with mirror and floral surrounds), wooden stair with worked balusters and glazed door to the corridor at the rear with coloured glass. Valuation MANSION, erected in an eclectic building style, characteristic of the architecture from the last quarter of the nineteenth century, of general importance on account of its cultural-historical and architectural-historical value on account of the architectural and aesthetic qualities of the design and on account of the particular coherence between exterior and interior (components).
