Inleiding HERENHUIS, gesitueerd in de nagenoeg gesloten oostelijke gevelwand van de Hereweg, parallel aan het Herewegviaduct, gebouwd in 1860 in een rijk versierde, eclectische bouwstijl. In 1900 is het gebouw gesplitst in een beneden- en bovenwoning. In 1941 is het balkon boven de ingang verwijderd en zijn de openslaande balkondeuren vervangen door een tweedelig, overhoeks geplaatst venster. Het gebouw is thans in gebruik als kantoor en daartoe inwendig deels aangepast. Omschrijving Het gebouw is opgetrokken op een rechthoekige plattegrond en telt twee bouwlagen onder een afgeknot schilddak, belegd met een zwarte Hollandse pan. De voorgevel wordt afgesloten door een kroonlijst, die versierd is met rank- en loofwerk en consoles in stuc, waarop een geprofileerde bakgoot rust. De voorgevel is vijf traveeën breed en symmetrisch van opzet. De gevel is geheel gepleisterd en wordt op de hoeken geleed door dubbele pilasterstellingen, die voorzien zijn van spiegels en kapitelen. De vensters zijn segmentboogvormig gesloten en hebben geprofileerd stuc lijstwerk met aan de bovenzijde rank- en loofwerk en rozetten in stuc. Het ingangsrisaliet in het midden bevat een bewerkte houten paneeldeur met zijlichten onder een rondboog met gekleurd glas-in-lood. De deur is omkaderd met stuc lijstwerk met sluitsteen. Hierboven bevindt zich een tweedelig, overhoeks venster met bovenlicht dat omkaderd is met stuc pilasters met spiegels, architraaf en driehoekig fronton. Inwendig nog van belang enkele geornamenteerde stuc plafonds en marmeren schouwen. Introduction MANSION HOUSE, situated in the almost closed eastern gable wall of the Hereweg, parallel to the Herewegviaduct, built in 1860 in a richly decorated, eclectic architectural style. In 1900 the building was divided into a lower and upper dwelling. In 1941 the balcony above the entrance was removed and the French doors replaced by a two-part window placed diagonally. The building is currently in use as an office and has been partly adapted internally for this purpose. Description The building is constructed on a rectangular ground plan and comprises two storeys under a truncated hipped roof, covered with black Dutch tiles. The front facade is finished with a cornice, decorated with foliate scrolls and leafwork and consoles in stucco, on which a profiled gutter rests. The front facade is five bays wide and symmetrical in arrangement. The facade is entirely plastered and is articulated at the corners by double pilaster sets, provided with mirror panels and capitals. The windows are segmentally arched and have profiled stucco mouldings with foliate scrolls and rosettes in stucco at the top. The entrance risalit in the centre contains a worked wooden panelled door with side lights under a round arch with coloured leaded glass. The door is framed with stucco mouldings with keystones. Above this is a two-part window placed diagonally with fanlight framed with stucco pilasters with mirror panels, architrave and triangular pediment. Internally of note are several ornate stucco ceilings and marble mantels. Valuation MANSION HOUSE, built in a richly decorated, eclectic style, of general importance for its cultural-historical and architectural-historical value due to the architectural integrity of the exterior and the quality of the stucco decorations. Furthermore, the building forms a valuable architectural element in the eastern gable wall of the Hereweg next to the Herewegviaduct in Groningen.
