Inleiding
CELLENGEBOUW in 1860 gebouwd in opdracht van het Ministerie van Binnenlandse Zaken en ontworpen volgens de principes van A.C. Pierson (ingenieur voor de gevangenisbouw ter ondersteuning van de Provinciale hoofdingenieur van Waterstaat). In 1889 werd in opdracht van het Ministerie van Justitie een verbouwing van het cellengebouw gerealiseerd. Daarbij werd een dienstwoning van het type II (of oud IV) gebouwd. Ontwerper was W.C. Metzelaar. Tegenwoordig is het oude cellengebouw in gebruik als magazijn van de gestichtswacht. De woning is ingericht als kantoor voor het aangrenzende cellengebouw uit 1939-1940.
Omschrijving
Evenwijdig aan de weg gelegen, een bouwlaag tellend gebouw op een rechthoekige plattegrond. Het geheel is uit baksteen opgetrokken in een sobere en functionele stijl en wordt gedekt door een met pannen belegd zadeldak; windveren; eenvoudige goot op klossen (deels gietijzer). In de oostelijke zijgevel een dubbele deur met gebogen bovendorpel; ernaast een 20-ruits ijzeren venster; de overige zijgevels uitgerust met 10-ruits ramen met gebogen bovendorpel en ijzeren vensterbanken.

Introduction
CELLS BUILDING built in 1860 commissioned by the Ministry of the Interior and designed according to the principles of A.C. Pierson (engineer for prison construction in support of the Provincial chief engineer of Public Works). In 1889 a renovation of the cells building was realised on commission of the Ministry of Justice. In doing so, a service dwelling of type II (or old IV) was built. The designer was W.C. Metzelaar. Nowadays the old cells building is in use as a warehouse of the institution guard. The dwelling is fitted out as an office for the adjacent cells building from 1939-1940.
Description
Parallel to the road, a one-storey building on a rectangular floor plan. The whole is constructed of brick in a sober and functional style and is covered by a gabled roof tiled with pans; wind braces; simple gutter on brackets (partly cast iron). In the eastern side facade a double door with curved lintel; beside it a 20-pane iron window; the remaining side facades equipped with 10-pane windows with curved lintel and iron windowsills.

Cells building of cultural-historical, typological, architectural-historical and urban planning importance as well as of importance as a functional component of the exceptionally valuable complex Veenhuizen.
