Inleiding
APOTHEEK ANNEX DIENSTWONING, gebouwd in opdracht van het Ministerie van Justitie voor de assistent-apotheker. Het gebouw met midden in de voorgevel de naam Bitter en Zoet is in 1893 gebouwd naar ontwerp van W.C. Metzelaar; het is functioneel zowel als visueel sterk verbonden met de woning Toewijding en de apothekerswoning Plichtgevoel (respectievelijk Hospitaallaan 16 en 24).
Omschrijving
Evenwijdig aan de weg gelegen twee bouwlagen tellend gebouw op rechthoekige plattegrond. Het geheel is uit baksteen opgetrokken in een sobere en functionele stijl en wordt gedekt door een met pannen belegd aan een zijde doorgetrokken zadeldak met pannen en windveren; schoorstenen; eenvoudige goot op klossen. De symmetrisch ingedeelde voorgevel wordt geleed door getoogde 12-ruits schuiframen met persiennes; paarsgewijs geplaatste 4-ruits steekramen; natuurstenen vensterbanken. De zuidelijke zijgevel en hoeken aan de noordzijde zijn voorzien van blokbepleistering. Aan weerskanten een zijaanbouw met lessenaardak; deur met 2-ruits bovenlicht.
