Inleiding
DIENSTWONING, gebouwd in opdracht van het Ministerie van Justitie voor de geneesheer. Het gebouw met midden in de voorgevel de naam Toewijding is in 1893 gebouwd naar ontwerp van W.C. Metzelaar; het is functioneel zowel als visueel sterk verbonden met de aangrenzende apotheek Bitter en Zoet en de apothekerswoning Plichtgevoel (respectievelijk Hospitaallaan 20;22 en 24).
Omschrijving
Evenwijdig aan de weg gelegen twee bouwlagen tellend woonhuis op rechthoekige plattegrond. Het geheel is uit baksteen opgetrokken in een sobere en functionele stijl en wordt gedekt door een met pannen belegd zadeldak; windveren; schoorstenen; eenvoudige goot op klossen.
De symmetrisch ingedeelde gevels worden geleed door getoogde 6-ruits schuiframen met natuurstenen vensterbanken, deels met persiennes; kleinere getoogde ramen in de kopse gevels; staafankers. De zuidelijke zijgevel, waarin de deur met bovenlicht, en de hoeken aan de noordzijde zijn voorzien van blokbepleistering. Achtergevel met getoogd 6-ruits schuifraam en persiennes, 2 kleine getoogde ramen en daarboven smalle 10-ruits ramen ten behoeve van het trappenhuis; aanbouw met plat.

Description
Situated parallel to the road, a two-storey residential house on a rectangular ground plan. The whole is constructed in brick in a sober and functional style and is covered by a gabled roof with tile covering; wind vanes; chimneys; simple gutter on brackets.
The symmetrically arranged facades are articulated by arched 6-pane sash windows with natural stone window sills, partly with blinds; smaller arched windows in the side facades; bar anchors. The southern side facade, in which the door with fanlight, and the corners on the north side are provided with ashlar rendering. Rear facade with arched 6-pane sash window and blinds, 2 small arched windows and above narrow 10-pane windows for the stairwell; extension with flat roof.
