Inleiding
Vrijstaande villa uit 1920-1923, genaamd Tenrande en gebouwd in opdracht van het Bouwbureau Joh.D. v.d. Houwen naar ontwerp van de architecten J. Duiker en B. Bijvoet in cottagestijl, en behorend tot het villapark Meer en Bosch.
Omschrijving
Villa op onregelmatige plattegrond, bestaande uit twee bouwlagen onder een rieten zadeldak met wolfseinden. Het dak bevat met riet gedekte dakkapellen. De muren zijn van baksteen en later witgeschilderd. De tweede bouwlaag aan de voorzijde en de toppen van de uitbouwen aan de rechterzijgevel en tegen de achtergevel zijn gepotdekseld. De uitbouwen bezitten rieten zadeldaken. Aan de linkerkant van de voorgevel bevindt zich het (dichtgezette) terras, voorzien een gepotdekselde topgevel, en rechts een overhoeks geplaatste hoge gemetselde schoorsteen. Daarnaast is, terugliggend ten opzichte van de voorgevel, de ingang in een portiek gesitueerd. De rechthoekige vensters bezitten deels zijlichten.
Kenmerkend voor deze architectuur is de harmonische overgang van het besloten huis naar de open natuur door middel van een overdekt terras (hier later dichtgezet) en plaatsjes met lage scheidingsmuren. De villa behorend tot het cottage-type maakt deel uit van het door J. Duiker en B. Bijvoet ontworpen villapark "Meer en Bosch". Naast het cottage-type komt hier ook het op de stijl van Frank Lloyd Wright geinspireerde landhuis voor. Het plan voor het villa-park is een goed voorbeeld van de toenmalige nieuwe filosofie over het gezond buiten wonen in de nabijheid van de stad.

Villa on irregular plan, consisting of two storeys under a thatched gabled roof with half-hipped ends. The roof contains thatch-covered roof dormers. The walls are of brick and later painted white. The second storey on the front and the tops of the extensions on the right side facade and against the rear facade are pantiled. The extensions have thatched gabled roofs. On the left side of the front facade there is the (closed) terrace, provided with a pantiled gable, and on the right a tall built-up chimney placed at an angle. Beside this, set back from the front facade, is the entrance situated in a porch. The rectangular windows have partly side lights.
Characteristic of this architecture is the harmonious transition from the enclosed house to open nature by means of a covered terrace (here later closed) and small spaces with low boundary walls. The villa belonging to the cottage-type is part of the villa park "Meer en Bosch" designed by J. Duiker and B. Bijvoet.
