Inleiding
Grafmonument Ragay in de vorm van een omheind marmeren mausoleum in neo-classicistische stijl, bevattende de graven van P.A. Ragay en zijn neef P. Ragay.
Jaar waarin concessie is verleend: 1837.
Pieter Agnisius Ragay keerde als militair na de verdrijving der Fransen terug naar Nederland. Wegens zijn verdiensten benoemde koning Willem I hem tot kolonel en thesaurier van het Koninklijk Huis. Hij bleef ongehuwd en was een der eersten die begraven werden op de Algemene Begraafplaats. David Ragay was een neef van Pieter Ragay. Ook hij maakte carriere als militair en hij volgde zijn neef op als thesaurier van het Koninklijk Huis. Ook David bleef ongehuwd. Hij nam het initiatief tot de stichting van het mausoleum voor zijn neef en werd er zelf ook begraven.
Omschrijving
Neo-classicistisch mausoleum in de vorm van een Grieks- Romeinse sarcofaag of tempeltje. Het marmeren bouwsel, geplaatst op een getrapte keldervloer, wordt omsloten door een hekwerk, bestaande uit twaalf vierkante geprofileerde hardstenen palen waartussen twaalf nagenoeg vierkante gietijzeren hekken zijn gehangen, voorzien van rozetten op de knooppunten. Het mausoleum heeft een hoge vlakke plint, die aan de voorzijde is voorzien van het familiewapen Ragay in reliëf. Daarboven zijn aan alle hoeken rechte pilasters die een hoofdgestel, frontons en acroteria dragen. Tussen de pilasters zijn verdiepte rechthoekige velden; dat aan de voorzijde wordt versierd door een gebeeldhouwd reliëf uit 1883 met de drie kardinale deugden Geloof, Hoop en Liefde. Deze zijn in klassieke trant weergegeven door de Duitse beeldhouwer N.K. Eduard Schmidt von der Launitz (1797-1869), een leerling van Thorvaldsen. De pilasters die het reliëf flankeren zijn versierd met naar beneden gekeerde rouwtoortsen of fakkels, die aan de corresponderende achterzijde met Griekse rouwvazen. De verdiepte velden aan de zijkanten zijn voorzien van inscripties en op de hoeken ronde imitatie siernagels in reliëf.
Het rechterpaneel draait als een deurtje naar binnen en om die reden zit er een sleutelgat en een ringvormige klink. Het corresponderende paneel aan de andere zijde had gezien de later ingezette stukken eenzelfde functie maar is nu gefixeerd. Het driehoekig fronton aan de voorzijde draagt eenreliëf met slang die in zijn eigen staart bijt. Het motief van de naar beneden gekeerde rouwtoorts komt weer terug in het hekwerk.

Description
Neo-classical mausoleum in the form of a Greco-Roman sarcophagus or small temple. The marble structure, placed on a stepped cellar floor, is enclosed by ironwork consisting of twelve square profiled sandstone posts between which twelve approximately square cast-iron railings are hung, provided with rosettes at the junction points. The mausoleum has a high flat plinth, which on the front is provided with the Ragay family coat of arms in relief. Above this are straight pilasters at all corners that carry a main entablature, pediments and acroteria. Between the pilasters are recessed rectangular panels; the one on the front is decorated with a sculptured relief from 1883 depicting the three cardinal virtues Faith, Hope and Charity. These are represented in classical style by German sculptor N.K. Eduard Schmidt von der Launitz (1797-1869), a pupil of Thorvaldsen. The pilasters flanking the relief are decorated with downward-pointing mourning torches or flames, which on the corresponding rear side are matched with Greek mourning vessels. The recessed panels on the sides are provided with inscriptions and at the corners round imitation ornamental nails in relief.
The right panel pivots inward like a small door and for this reason there is a keyhole and a ring-shaped handle. The corresponding panel on the other side, judging by the pieces inserted later, had the same function but is now fixed. The triangular pediment on the front carries a relief with a serpent biting its own tail. The motif of the downward-pointing mourning torch appears again in the ironwork.
