Inleiding
Het ca. 1905 gebouwde WOONHUIS heeft de kenmerken van de neo- renaissance en de art nouveau en is daarmee een typische vertegenwoordiger van een overgangsstijl. Het pand bevindt zich in een stadsdeel dat wordt gekenmerkt door veel laat-negentiende en vroeg-twintigste eeuwse woonhuizen voor de gegoede burgerij en behoort tot de panden die getuigen van de welstand van vele Assenaren, voortkomend uit de explosive groei van de stad in de negentiende eeuw. De bescherming geldt voor de vroeg-twintigste eeuwse hoofdvorm en de bijbehorende uitbouw.
Omschrijving.
Het vanuit een rechthoekige plattegrond opgetrokken pand heeft een verdieping onder een met geglazuurde platte Friese pannen gedekt afgeknot schilddak. De symmetrische, vijfassige voorgevel heeft een gepleisterde plint, cordonlijst, hoeklisenen met basement, entablement en getoogde, met persiennes behangen vensters onder hanekammen van verblendsteen. In het hoger opgaande middenrisalietbevindt zich een getoogd portiek met hanekam en een originele art nouveau vleugeldeur met smeedijzeren raamijzers, deels gecanneleerde stolpnaald en getoogd bovenlicht. Aan weerszijden van deze ingangstravee loopt een uitgemetselde, steensbrede band van verblendsteen met kraagstuk. Deze loopt over in houten consoles met gestileerde plantemotieven die een balkon dragen met geprofileerde voetplaat en smeedijzeren hekken tussen houten balusters. Op het balkon komt een porte brisée met getoogd bovenlicht uit. De bakstenen opbouw betreft een tuitgeveltje dat eveneens is voorzien van een in een spaarveld geplaatst getoogd venster tussen gepleisterde vleugelstukken, segmentboog boven latei, geprofileerde deklijst en uitgemetselde tuit. Aan weerszijden van de kraagstukken loopt het van gecanneleerde klampen voorziene entablement met geprofileerde gootlijst. In de rechter zijgevel staat slechts een getoogd T-venster op de verdieping. De achtergevel is voorzien van getoogde, met persiennes behangen porte brisees die uitkomen op een niet originele aanbouw. De houten dakkapel is wel negentiende eeuws en heeft een geprofileerde kroonlijst en zinken wangen. De uit de bouwtijd van het huis daterende verdiepingloze uitbouw met zadeldak is onder meer voorzien van twee gietijzeren roosvensters. In de linker zijgevel staan op diverse hoogtes geplaatste getoogde vensters met persiennes en een eveneens getoogd venstertje met diefijzers. De klampen ontbreken aan de entablementen van de achter- en de zijgevels.
Waardering
Het vrij gave pand is representatief voor de woonhuisarchitectuur van rond de eeuwwisseling en is als zodanig van architectuurhistorisch belang. Het beeldpalende pand maakt deel uit van de waardevolle laat-negentiende en vroeg-twintigste eeuwse bebouwing aan de Beilerstraat en heeft derhalve ook ensemblewaarde. Het huis is tevens onderdeel van het beschermde stadsgezicht Assen.

The RESIDENTIAL HOUSE built circa 1905 has the characteristics of neo-renaissance and art nouveau and is thereby a typical representative of a transitional style. Description.
The property, erected from a rectangular floor plan, has one storey under a hipped roof covered with glazed flat Frisian tiles. The symmetrical, five-bay front facade has a plastered plinth, string course, corner pilasters with basement, entablature and arched, persienne-hung windows under crested brick corbels. In the higher-rising central projection is an arched porch with crested corbel and an original art nouveau winged door with wrought-iron frame irons, partly fluted capital and arched fanlight. On either side of this entrance bay runs a laid out, one brick wide band of decorative brick with corbel. This transitions into wooden consoles with stylised plant motifs that carry a balcony with moulded base and wrought-iron railings between wooden balusters. On the balcony comes a porte brisée with arched fanlight. The brick construction comprises a spout gable which is likewise provided with an arched window placed in a spare field between plastered wing pieces, segmental arch above lintel, moulded cornice and laid out spout. On either side of the corbels runs the entablature provided with fluted clamps and moulded gutter line. In the right side facade stands only an arched T-window on the upper storey. The rear facade is provided with arched, persienne-hung portes brisées which open onto a non-original extension. The wooden dormer is indeed nineteenth century and has a moulded cornice and zinc sides. The single-storey extension with gabled roof dating from the construction period of the house is provided among other things with two cast-iron grille windows. In the left side facade stand at various heights placed arched windows with persiennes and likewise an arched small window with theft irons. The clamps are missing from the entablatures of the rear and side facades.
Valuation
The fairly intact property is representative of residential house architecture from around the turn of the century and is as such of architectural historical importance. The prominent property is part of the valuable late nineteenth and early twentieth century construction on the Beilerstraat and therefore also has ensemble value. The house is furthermore part of the protected townscape Assen.
