The register's description

Designed in 1934 by G.Th. Rietveld on behalf of the violinist Z. Szekely, principally according to the principles of the Nieuwe Bouwen, completely detached DWELLING HOUSE with garage, originally named "Rhapsody".

The house contains two storeys and is built on a floor plan composed of circular and square forms with flat white-rendered brick walls with a heavy plinth under hipped roofs covered with slate; the walls are broken through by windows set in narrow steel frames with horizontal and vertical subdivision, which are distributed harmoniously and varying in size over the elevations, based on a fixed unit of measurement. The entrance is in the NE elevation, in the right middle section; northwards the elevation follows the curved building line to the western cross wall which adjoins this at right angles and which forms a connection with the likewise curved, forward-extending wing of the living room on the SW side, which originally comprised only one storey and in the middle contained the house name, and to which subsequently, in the same manner, the upper structure was added. At the junction of this upper structure and the SE cross arm, the glazed staircase top is extended at an obtuse angle, opening onto the roof terrace above the low, block-shaped S wing, in which the music/study room was originally housed in lockable connection with the living room; the roof terrace is enclosed by a partly rendered, partly frosted-glass parapet. The supporting part of the southeastern cross arm is supported on the S corner by a square column and for the eastern part by the low garage wing with auxiliary spaces; subsequently this wing was extended at the rear and top.

Dwelling house with general characteristics of the Nieuwe Bouwen from the period 1920-40 - through the application of cubic and cylindrical building volumes, with flat, white-rendered walls broken through by windows and doors set in narrow steel frames based on a clear proportional scheme - and as such of general importance because of its significance for the development of modern architecture.
