Inleiding.
Voormalig winkelpand van de firma Schroder gebouwd in 1906 naar het ontwerp van architect L.A.H. de Wolf in de stijl van de Wiener Sezession. Het pand is opgenomen in de pleinwand met aaneengesloten bebouwing. NB. Sinds de verbouwing van het pand tot passage in de jaren zeventig, waarbij het interieur geheel werd gewijzigd, is alleen de voorgevel nog monumentwaardig. Omschrijving.
Het pand telt drie bouwlagen en een kapverdieping in het evenwijdig aan de straat lopende schilddak. De breedte bedraagt drie brede vensterassen, waarvan de rechter oorspronkelijk de ingang bevatte. In zijn authentieke toestand bezat het pand een ijzerconstructie, bekleed mat cement volgens het systeem Monier. De parterre werd oorspronkelijk in beslag genomen door etalages met bovenlichten, terwijl rechts de toegang was gesitueerd. De uit drie brede assen bestaande gevel heeft een constructie met ijzeren kolommen die met natuursteen zijn bekleed en wordt verticaal geleed door vier doorlopende, gecanneleerde pilasters met ter hoogte van het dak gebeeldhouwde maskerkoppen. De vensters in de verdiepingen bezitten houten kozijnen en roeden; de getoogde vensters van de zolderverdieping zijn elk door twee pilasters in drieën verdeeld en worden omgeven door beeldhouwwerk met plantaardige motieven. Boven de middenas bevindt zich ijzeren siersmeedwerk waarin oorspronkelijk de firmanaam was aangebracht. Het pand behoort tot de periode van ruim tien jaar waarin L. de Wolf een groot aantal panden bouwde in de stijl van de Weense Sezession, direct volgend op zijn studie aan de Akademie der Bildende Kunste in Wenen (1897-1899). Gevel typologisch en architectuurhistorisch van belang als zeldzaam voorbeeld van een glasgevel met ornamenten in natuursteen en smeedijzer in de stijl van de Wiener Sezession. The width comprises three wide window bays, of which the right-hand one originally contained the entrance. In its authentic state the premises possessed an iron frame structure, clad with cement according to the Monier system. The ground floor was originally occupied by shop windows with fanlights, while to the right the entrance was situated. The facade, consisting of three wide bays, has a structure with iron columns clad with natural stone and is divided vertically by four continuous, fluted pilasters with sculpted mask heads at roof height. The windows in the storeys possess wooden frames and glazing bars; the arched windows of the attic storey are each divided into three by two pilasters and are surrounded by sculptural work with vegetable motifs. Above the central bay there is wrought iron ornamental work in which the firm name was originally displayed. The premises belongs to the period of roughly ten years in which L. de Wolf built a large number of premises in the style of the Wiener Sezession, directly following his study at the Akademie der Bildende Kunste in Vienna (1897-1899).
