The register's description

(Huis 't Joppe, Joppelaan 110) HOOFDGEBOUW. Oorspronkelijk waren beide hoekpaviljoens even groot.

(House 't Joppe, Joppelaan 110) MAIN BUILDING. Main building of red brick construction with basement, consisting of a recessed centrally located pavilion, flanked by two projecting pavilions. The pavilions are topped with hipped roofs covered with Dutch blue tiles, each furnished with a wooden surrounding balustrade with diagonal balusters and centrally located rectangular panels. Originally both corner pavilions were the same size. In 1853 the right pavilion was enlarged towards the rear. The front (NW) section of the central pavilion is, like the side pavilions, at a higher level than the rear section of the central pavilion, which is provided with a basement storey. This level difference between these two sections probably indicates an earlier date of origin for the rear section of the central pavilion. The building date of the house is unknown. On the basis of stylistic features of the stucco ceilings and chimneypieces in the house in Louis XV style, the house could be dated to circa 1760, which is in contradiction with the design of the baluster-shaped balusters of the staircase and of the pilasters of the framing of the entrance section, which belong more to the 1730s; this latter dating is more in agreement with the pavilion-like layout of the house, which in the second half of the 18th century is an unusual phenomenon in the Netherlands. From the perspective of the history of occupation of 't Joppe, it could be supposed that the present layout of the house in three pavilions was realized in the years 1739-1742, when Geertruid Bouwer was the owner. In the 1860s the house was restored. At that time the empire sash windows were replaced by neo-18th-century sash windows. Entrance (NW) side: the entrance is located centrally in the middle pavilion and is emphasized by an exceptional monumental frame, which is carried through to halfway up the roof, and by a bell tower with clock mechanism on the ridge of the roof. The frame consists of two pilasters against lisenes with block motif. The rusticated base of the pilasters is decorated with a shell motif and with Régence trellis work in relief. At the lower and upper ends of the shaft of the pilasters a palmette motif. The pilasters are concluded by a modillion with shell motif. The frame is crowned by a bell-shaped wooden plume piece, in which two coats of arms surrounded by richly carved scrollwork, above which a crown. The crown was added during the restoration in the 1860s, when the originally blank shields with the arms of Van Hovell tot Westerflier and Weezeveld (left) and Boreel de Mauregnault (right) were painted. Above the plume piece a square clock with on the front (NW) side the clock face, above which an 8-sided open bell tower with bell, in which the year 1741 is engraved. Within the frame a double front door with semicircular (upper) and rusticated in outline (lower) panels with rocaille carving. Above it, on the first storey, a sash window with (now) 56-pane glazing. Before the restoration there was here a window to ground with semicircular fanlight and with an empire French balcony. Above this, on the second storey, a (now) 28-pane sash window. On either side of the entrance section and on the facing sides of the corner pavilions on the ground floor (now) a 30-pane sash window and on the first storey a sash window with (now) 40-pane glazing. On each of the front sides of the corner pavilions on the ground floor two sash windows with (now) 30-pane glazing and on the first storey two sash windows with (now) 40-pane glazing. The windows on the front of the corner pavilions are provided with venetian blinds. On the second storey at both corner pavilions an arched dormer window with (now) a 16-pane sash window. In the side gable of the left corner pavilion four blind windows. On the rear side of both corner pavilions on the ground floor (now) a 30-pane sash window, on the first storey (now) a sash window with 40-pane glazing and on the second storey a dormer window as on the front. The central pavilion is extended to the rear in three sides. This extension may have taken place subsequently in the 18th century. On the ground floor on the rear side a double door with a (now) 24-pane glazing. To the left and right of this a blind window. On the first storey, where the dome chamber is situated, in the three extended sides a sash window with (now) 40-pane glazing. The NE side of the middle pavilion is divided into three bays with on the ground floor two sash windows with (now) 25-pane glazing and on the right side (now) a 30-pane sash window. Below the two aforementioned windows on this side two basement windows with on the left a shutter and on the right a grille. On the first storey three sash windows with (now) a 40-pane glazing and on the second storey a dormer window as on the front of the corner pavilions. The SW side of the middle pavilion is divided into three bays with on the ground floor three (now) 30-pane sash windows and on the first storey three (now) 40-pane sash windows. On the second storey a dormer window as on the front of the corner pavilions. On the side gable of the right pavilion an open extension from the 1950s, which is of secondary importance for protection. On a photograph from before the Second World War there was on this side a conservatory of circa 1900, which extended over almost the entire length of the pavilion. On the right on the ground floor a double 19th-century door with arched windows with per door an 11-pane glazing. Above this on the first storey a sash window with (now) a 40-pane glazing and to the left of it an identical window, which was reopened in this century and during the restoration of the 1860s was installed and provided with this glazing. The sash window with 30-pane glazing on the left side on the ground floor was also reopened in 1933. Interior: the front section of the central pavilion is occupied across its full width by a vestibule, which is also a staircase hall. The walls and ceilings of the vestibule, the staircase and the corridor of this section on the first and second storeys display rich stucco decorations in Louis XV style, which were probably applied circa 1760. This also applies to the rich Louis XV-style design of the marble mantels and chimney breasts with mirror-framings of the rooms at the front of the corner pavilions on the ground floor and of the room at the front of the southwestern pavilion on the first storey. The room on the ground floor situated in the northwestern pavilion has red damask wallpaper and curtains from circa 1890. The wooden balustrade of the main staircase located centrally in the vestibule is furnished with richly worked Régence balusters, which were probably installed circa 1730-1740. The small semicircular gallery in the staircase, which is located on the second storey of the rear section of the central pavilion and which provides light to the corridor situated at right angles to this gallery and the staircase in this rear section, has an identical balustrade. At the rear of the central pavilion there is a round dome chamber from the last quarter of the 18th century, which offers a view of the park in five directions. The dome vault rests on a drum treated as an attic and divided into seven bays. Adjacent to this, the wall of the dome is also divided by eight pilasters into seven bays; between the pilasters, the five aforementioned windows, a double entrance door on the NW side and on either side of this a semicircular niche.
