Omschrijving
Inleiding.

Description
Introduction.
Detached apartment building "Boschzicht" surrounded by greenery from 1918-1920 in the style of the Nieuwe Haagse School. The building was designed on behalf of N.V. Bouw- en exploitatiemaatschappij "De Moderne Woning" by W. Verschoor in collaboration with C. Rutten.
Description.
The APARTMENT BUILDING "Boschzicht", WITH GARDEN, from 1918-1920 on a composite floor plan with staggered building line consists of four storeys under a flat roof. Characteristic are the red brick with recessed joints, a cubist grouping of the building masses and a pronounced horizontal articulation of concrete lines and bands. Also striking is the transition between interior and exterior space through the brick plant boxes incorporated into the architecture. Broad steel windows (some replaced by aluminium) provide ample light penetration. At the locations of the stairwells vertical window strips have been inserted in the facades. In the main entrances cased in natural stone, leaded glass has been incorporated. The restrained plasticity of the architecture is not restricted only to the facades facing the street oriented towards the Haagse Bos, but is perceptible from all sides also due to the presence of a large garden which emphasises the representative character of the complex.
The design encompassed a number of luxurious flats (all had a surface area of a minimum of 240 m and some extended across the entire depth of the building), a restaurant, a billiards room, guest rooms and a large garden. Each flat had a room for live-in staff and a service lift.
The apartment building has two stairwells which are decorated by oak wood panelling. There is a clear separation into flats facing the garden and those facing the wood, with spacious light wells onto which bathrooms and corridors open.
Valuation.
The apartment building with garden has cultural-historical and typological value because of its form of housing rare for the Netherlands, the luxurious residential hotel, which in the period between the two world wars particularly in Den Haag enjoyed some popularity. It is also the oldest apartment building in the Netherlands. Architecturally it is a valuable example of the Nieuwe Haagse School.
