Inleiding.
Appartementengebouw en herenhuis uit 1925 op onregelmatige plattegrond ontworpen door J. Wils en F.L.J. Lourijsen volgens de ideeen van het Nieuwe Bouwen.
Omschrijving.
Gebouw uit 1925 bestaande uit appartementen en een hierin opgenomen herenhuis gebouwd volgens de principes van het Nieuwe Bouwen, waarin elementen die kenmerkend zijn voor de architectuur van Frank Lloyd Wright zijn terug te vinden. Het is gesitueerd op de kop van een bouwblok en heeft drie gevels die langs de openbare straat zijn gelegen. De kubistische wijze van bouwen kenmerkt zich door sobere bakstenen muurvlakken waarbij betonnen gevelbanden, vensterbanken, uitkragende luifels en dakoverstekken een horizontale geleding geven. De in de architectuur opgenomen schoorsteenkanalen zorgen voor een speels verticaal element in de compositie. Wrightiaans zijn ook de hoge beplantingsvakken onder de ramen van de parterre.
Het gebouw is opgetrokken in schoon metselwerk met natuurstenen banden en varieert van drie tot vier bouwlagen met platte daken. De vloerplaten van de erkers, balkons en de luifels zijn uit gewapend beton samengesteld.
De hoofdingang heeft sculptuur in donkergrijze Namense hardsteen (links een uil en rechts een pelikaan) van de beeldhouwer J.C. Altorf. De hierachter gelegen vestibule en gang met de daaraangrenzende deuren naar de appartementen zijn nog authentiek. De stalen vensters zijn recentelijk grotendeels vervangen.
Waardering.
Het appartementengebouw met herenhuis is architectuurhistorisch waardevol als een gaaf voorbeeld van het Nieuwe Bouwen met duidelijke invloeden van de amerikaanse architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Een belangrijke toegevoegde waarde vormt de stedebouwkundige ligging op de kop van een bouwblok langs het ovaalvormige Jozef Israelsplein.

Building from 1925 consisting of apartments and a town house incorporated within it, built according to the principles of the Nieuwe Bouwen, in which elements characteristic of the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright can be found. It is situated at the corner of a building block and has three elevations facing the public street. The cubist manner of building is characterized by austere brick wall surfaces whereby concrete facade bands, window sills, projecting cornices and roof overhangs provide horizontal articulation. The chimney ducts incorporated in the architecture provide a playful vertical element in the composition. Also Wrightian are the tall planting boxes beneath the windows of the ground storey.
The building is constructed in fair-faced brickwork with natural stone bands and varies from three to four storeys with flat roofs. The floor slabs of the bay windows, balconies and cornices are made of reinforced concrete.
The main entrance has sculpture in dark grey Namur sandstone (on the left an owl and on the right a pelican) by sculptor J.C. Altorf. The vestibule and corridor behind it with the adjoining doors to the apartments are still authentic. The steel windows have recently been largely replaced.

The apartment building with town house is architecturally valuable as an intact example of the Nieuwe Bouwen with clear influences from American architect Frank Lloyd Wright.
