Tegen de noordzijde van en deels onder het koor van de reeds beschermde RK kerk OLV Onbevlekt Ontvangen aangebouwde bisschoppelijke grafkapel, uitgevoerd in neogotische trant naar posthuum ontwerp van Th. Molkenboer in 1864. De in dezelfde baksteensoort als van de kerk opgetrokken grafkapel, waarvan de muren zijn voorzien van een kanteel-achtige bekroning en van overhoeks geplaatste steunberen, is alleen van buiten af toegankelijk, vanaf de zijde van de begraafplaats, door middel van een voorportaal. De voorgevel bevat boven het van dubbele spitsboogvormige deuren met ijzeren gehengen voorziene portaal het opschrift locus depositionis episcoporum sanctae ecclesiae harlem met christelijke (graf)symbolen, en voorts een vierpas en vijf wapenschilden; het middelste kanteel wordt bekroond door een kruis. De linkerzijgevel bevat een spitsboogvenster met glas-in-lood en een smal portaalvenster. De korte rechterzijgevel is vrijwel blind. Inwendig leiden vier treden naar de lager gelegen grafkelder, die door stenen kruisribgewelven wordt overkluisd en die door een spitsboogvormige doorgang van het portaal wordt gescheiden. Description
Against the north side of and partly beneath the choir of the already protected Roman Catholic church of Our Lady Immaculate Conception, a episcopal burial chapel built in the neo-Gothic style according to a posthumous design by Th. Molkenboer in 1864. The burial chapel, constructed in the same type of brick as the church, whose walls are fitted with a battlement-like coping and diagonally placed buttresses, is accessible from the outside only from the side of the cemetery, by means of a fore-porch. The front facade contains, above the portal fitted with double pointed-arch-shaped doors with iron hinges, the inscription locus depositionis episcoporum sanctae ecclesiae harlem with Christian (burial) symbols, and furthermore a quatrefoil and five coats of arms; the middle battlement is crowned by a cross. The left side facade contains a pointed-arch window with stained glass and a narrow portal window. The short right side facade is virtually blank. Internally, four steps lead down to the lower burial vault, which is covered by stone cross-ribbed vaults and which is separated from the portal by a pointed-arch-shaped opening. On each of the short sides are situated six natural stone memorial plaques, six of which bear an inscription in memory of the bishops of Haarlem who died since 1861. Against the rear side are a simple altar and a carved stone cross with Christ figure. The floor consists of yellow tiles. Episcopal burial chapel of importance as a component of the already protected church of Our Lady Immaculate Conception and by reason of the architectural and cultural-historical values associated with its specific function.
