Inleiding
Rond 1916 gebouwd TOEGANGSHEK, welke de noordelijke entree vormt van de historische buitenplaats Vaart en Duin. Het toegangshek bestaat in hoofdvorm uit twee vierkante pijlers met daartussen een in tweeën gedeeld sierhekwerk.
Omschrijving
De circa 2.25 meter hoge vierkante pijlers zijn van baksteen met decoraties in blokmotief van natuursteen. Ook het basement en de afdekplaat, welke wordt bekroond door een bolornament, zijn van natuursteen. In beide pijlers staat aan de straatzijde (O) in het natuursteen de inscriptie "Vaart en Duin", uitgevoerd in goudkleurige letters. Het in gietijzer uitgevoerde sierhekwerk is eveneens circa 2.25 meter hoog en klapt in twee delen naar binnen toe open en is, met name langs de bovenzijde, versierd met krulornamenten. Aan de noord- respectievelijk zuidzijde van de pijlers bevindt zich ook nog een stukje gietijzeren hekwerk van circa één meter breedte, dat eindigt in een krulvorm. Ten oosten en ten westen van de beide pijlers van het toegangshek loopt een circa 70 centimeter hoge bakstenen muur in respectievelijk oostelijk en westelijke richting. Deze muur, die bovenlangs door middel van een gietijzeren decoratie wordt beeïndigd, wordt na circa drie meter afgesloten door een lage vierkante pijler van baksteen met natuurstenen basement en afdekplaat.

The square piers, approximately 2.25 metres high, are of brick with decorations in block motif of natural stone. The basement and the capping stone, which is crowned by a ball ornament, are also of natural stone. In both piers, on the street side (E), the inscription "Vaart en Duin" is set in the natural stone, executed in gold-coloured letters. The ornamental ironwork, executed in cast iron, is likewise approximately 2.25 metres high and folds open in two parts towards the inside and is decorated, particularly along the top, with scroll ornaments. On the north and south side of the piers of the access gate there is also a piece of cast-iron fencing approximately one metre wide, which ends in a scroll form. To the east and west of both piers of the access gate runs a brick wall approximately 70 centimetres high in respectively easterly and westerly direction. This wall, which is finished along the top by means of a cast-iron decoration, is closed off after approximately three metres by a low square pier of brick with natural stone basement and capping stone.

The access gate is of general significance as a historic-functional component of the historic country estate Vaart en Duin and from a cultural and architectural history perspective as an example of an estate boundary dating from the first decades of the 20th century.
