Omschrijving

Description
The HISTORICAL GARDEN AND PARK LAYOUT consists of three parts:
1. the classical rectangular layout of the forecourt, whose 18th-century arrangement is determined by the outbuildings on the long sides and the main building and the balustrade with entrance gate and entrance bridge on the short sides. The spaces between the outer corners of the front of the house and between the southwestern corner of the northwestern outbuilding and the southeastern corner of the southeastern outbuilding are bounded by a 19th-century wrought-iron gate with a quarter-circle concave course. Behind it a 19th-century planting of lime trees, clipped parallel to the course of the gate.
2. the park layout in landscape style to the southwest of the main building, within the boundary of the rectangular moat system, consisting of a nineteenth-century park layout with winding paths directly bordering the house and a meadow with solitary specimens of beech, oak, chestnut, acacia and lime planted according to the architectural design principles of the landscape style, bordering this park section. These park sections are separated from each other by a fence, consisting of iron rails set in concrete posts, which is of subordinate significance for the historical layout. In the southern corner of the park section bordering the house a wooden arbour with a thatched roof.
3. the park layout composed of a rectangular moat system on which the aforementioned park sections 1 and 2 and a large-scale geometric lane system, with radial woodland, cemetery and various agricultural and woodland parcels. This geometric layout of the lane system, based on classical compositional principles, is typical of the manner of providing access to uncleared lands on the great east-Dutch country estates in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The regular pattern, according to which this clearing within the boundaries of the layout of the historical country house in the eighteenth and nineteenth century was carried out, is based on functional, exploitative and architectural considerations.
This layout consists of the long central transverse axis still partly planted with double rows of oak on either side, which extends from the Oude Lochemseweg to the farmhouse Ouden Ampsen (cadastral parcel Laren no. A792).
Perpendicular to this, from the heart of the forecourt, is the central main axis or central sight line (place name: allee in front of the house with in its extension Rauwendijk or Velddijk), with two lanes situated almost parallel to this main axis to the northeast (place names: Boermansdijk and Bouwdijk or Lonnemansdijk) and to the southwest a lane identical to the wind direction of the main axis (place name: Lange Rijstdijk).
This southwestern lane, which lies in the extension of the Oude Lochemseweg and the aforementioned most northeasterly lane form with the central transverse axis a trapezium-shaped figure, which is divided by the main axis into two sections. The section of this land from the central transverse axis through to the so-called parallel Siberie Pad was already laid out by the end of the 18th century, as evidenced by sheet N and Q of Van der Wijck's map from c. 1787 (Atlas Hottinger). The part of this trapezium-shaped layout situated to the northeast, which consists of a system of unmade woodland paths and which ends at Hooislag, was presumably laid out by Egbert Justinus van Nagell around 1850.
The area outlined and divided by the aforementioned pattern of lanes and paths consists of woodland and heath parcels as well as arable land, which, insofar as this concerns the section to the northeast of the Siberie Pad, have no monumental value. The same applies to the parcels enclosed by the Siberie Pad, the Bouwdijk and the Boermansdijk. Also the land surrounded by the Lange Rijstdijk, the Siberie Pad and the central sight line, which is bounded on the SW side by the NE side of the cadastral parcels municipality Laren nos A160, A745, A166, A1340, A169, A171, A194, A195 and A200, has no monumental significance. The cadastral parcels municipality Laren nos A197, A199 and A201, bordering the central sight line, on which a formal bed structure is located, do belong to the historical layout. Furthermore, the land enclosed by the central sight line, the Siberie Pad and the Boermansdijk likewise has no monumental importance for the historical layout. On the SW side this land is bounded by the perpendicular, which lies in the extension of the ditch which crosses the central sight line at right angles. This perpendicular runs in a southeastern direction through the cadastral parcels municipality Laren nos A227 and A226 and extends to the Boermansdijk.
On either side of the central sight line, in the so-called 'Engelsch Bosch', at the end of the 18th or beginning of the 19th century a watercourse in landscape style (between cadastral parcels Laren nos. A208 and A1268) and in the so-called 'Stern Bosch' a pond and islet in landscape style (cadastral parcels Laren nos. A205 and A204bis respectively) were laid out. In the 'Engelsch Bosch' a small hill recalls the place where the ice house was formerly situated. The houses and farmyards located in this section of the historical layout (cadastral parcel Laren no A739 and the dwellings on cadastral parcels Laren nos A117, A187 and A1027) are of subordinate significance for the historical arrangement of the layout.
Around 1700 a geometrically laid out radial woodland was realized to the southwest of the central transverse axis (place name: Mastbosch or radial woodland). The ground plan of this radial woodland, in which three triangular pond sections and a round basin have been preserved, still largely exists. The bed system, in which the geometric sections of this radial woodland were dug out, dates from the 19th century or earlier.
Following the Burials Act of 1869, around 1870 a cemetery was realized to the southeast of the radial woodland and to the southwest of the house (cadastral parcels Laren nos. A118 and A595). In the southeastern corner a mausoleum was built for the burial of deceased members of the Van Nagell family. This mausoleum is accessible via a winding path, whose starting point is marked by two rectangular brick pillars located at the central transverse axis, between which a simple wrought-iron grille gate. The layout of the cemetery furthermore consists of a planting of coniferous trees and evergreen shrubs. The cemetery is separated from the radial woodland by a 19th-century lane, which extends from the central transverse axis to the Ampsenseweg. The historical layout of the part of the country house Ampsen to the southwest of the central transverse axis is bounded by the Oude Lochemseweg, now still partly planted with occasional oaks on either side, on the NW and west side, the Ampsenseweg, now still partly planted with occasional oaks on either side, on the south and SE side and the access road, now still planted with double oaks on either side. This layout also includes the regularly planted group of trees (now still oaks) on the two farmyard plots situated to the southwest of this road (cadastral parcels Laren nos. A1093 and A1433) the regularly planted group of trees (now still oaks) on the farmyard of the farmhouse Ouden Ampsen bordering the Bouwdijk and the section of the Ampsenseweg to the west of the junction with Oude Lochemseweg, insofar as this is still regularly planted with some old oaks on either side (to approximately halfway through cadastral parcel Laren no. A931).
The agricultural parcels located within the boundary of the layout to be protected are managed from the farmhouses Nieuw Ampsen and Haytink. These farmhouses with the arrangement of their associated farmyards (cadastral parcels Laren nos. A196, A962, A567 and A570) are of more recent date and are of subordinate significance for the historical layout of the country house. The same applies to the dwelling located at the central transverse axis (cadastral parcel Laren no. A951; place name: Ververshuis) with the exception of its ornamental front facade, which plays an important role in the heart of the field of vision of the access road in the layout.
Also important in the historical layout is the church path (place name southern section: Bonenkamp), whose winding course, planted on either side with very old beeches and oaks (formerly called the 12 apostles), extends from the southeastern corner of the moat system to the Ampsenseweg. This path is one of the main elements that has given shape to the simple and fairly schematic nineteenth-century landscape-style layout to the southwest of the central sight line.
