The register's description

FORT OOSTOEVER.

FORT OOSTOEVER. The Nieuwe Werk laid out in 1791-1792, slipway and workshop for the Navy, was soon used as a gun emplacement to counter the Koegras in the event of a possible attack from the south. The French included it in their plans as fort Dugommier, for which it would be provided with a covered way with lunette. In 1833-1835 it was converted into fort Oostoever. Together with fort Westoever sometimes referred to as the fort on the Noordhollands canal.

The fort has an irregular shape and was entirely surrounded by a wide moat. Approximately two-thirds of the bank and moat are preserved. The rampart with high steep slopes is well preserved. In and on the bank are situated a machine-gun pillbox (south side) and two tobruks (west side) from the Second World War and two bunkers (north side) from the late 1930s. By their earthen covering merged with the earthen rampart are, from left to right: a powder magazine (also: magazine for hollow projectiles; south side), a broad gunpowder magazine (south side) and a narrower gunpowder magazine (west side) from the nineteenth century. On the south side the exterior of the bank is overgrown with hawthorn shrubs. In front of the bank is a narrow berm.
