DE VERBINDINGSWAL. In 1811-1813 werd begonnen met de aanleg van een verbindingswal met voorgelegen gracht, van het fort Lasalle (later Erfprins) naar het fort de l'Ecluse (later Dirks Admiraal), en vandaar naar het fort Dugommier (later Oostoever). Dit werd werd in 1826-1827 voltooid. In 1886 werden in de wal enige batterijen ingericht.
De gemeenschapslinie is in het algemeen goed bewaard gebleven, met uitzondering van het gedeelte tussen de Schoterweg en het fort Westoever. Dit gedeelte is op meerdere plaatsen meer of minder afgekaveld en voor het bassin van de mijnendienst geheel afgegraven. Het gedeelte tussen Erfprins en de Schoterweg heeft hoge, steile taluds van 3 tot 5 meter hoogte. Op meerdere plaatsen zijn remises, geschutsopstellingen en kazematten waarvan de aarden taluds 6 tot 8 meter hoog zijn. De ervoor gelegen gracht verkeert in goede staat. Description
THE CONNECTING WALL. In 1811-1813 work was begun on the construction of a connecting wall with moat in front of it, from the fort Lasalle (later Erfprins) to the fort de l'Ecluse (later Dirks Admiraal), and from there to the fort Dugommier (later Oostoever). This was completed in 1826-1827. In 1886 several batteries were installed in the wall.
The communal line has in general been well preserved, with the exception of the section between the Schoterweg and the fort Westoever. This section has been more or less subdivided in several places and has been completely excavated for the basin of the mine service. The section between Erfprins and the Schoterweg has high, steep taluses of 3 to 5 metres height. In several places there are remises, gun positions and casemates of which the earth taluses are 6 to 8 metres high. The moat in front of it is in good condition. On the city side the line is bounded by a narrow wet moat.
