KASTEEL-RAADHUIS. Omgracht kasteel uit omstreeks 1400, in 1921-1922 tot raadhuis ingericht en daartoe gewijzigd en gerestaureerd door J.W. Hanrath. Bestaande uit drie om een rechthoekige binnenplaats gelegen vleugels met zware, uitspringende ronde torens op de hoeken, op deze torens 17e eeuwse spitsen. De ingangsvleugel, aan de noordzijde, heeft twee vierkante hoek-torens, gedekt door van vier- en achtkant ingesnoerde spitsen, tussen welke een uitspringend gebouw met een trapgevel boven de poort; deze noordvleugel kwam in de 16e eeuw tot stand. Aan de binnenzijde boven de poort een topgevel. Deze vleugel sluit met trapgevels aan tegen de ronde hoektorens. In de met kruisribgewelven overkluisde kelders een museum met weefgetouwen. Inwendig voorts enige gepleisterde schouwen, balkzolderingen met gesneden sleutelstukken, enige kamers met stucwerk uit 1790; een schoorsteenboezem met de wapens Van Arberg en Cortenbach, portretten van de familie Cortenbach en Wesseman; voorts een kamer met Engels stucwerk uit het begin van de 19e eeuw. Description
CASTLE-TOWN HALL. Moated castle from around 1400, in 1921-1922 fitted out as town hall and for this purpose altered and restored by J.W. Hanrath. Consisting of three wings surrounding a rectangular courtyard with heavy, projecting round towers at the corners, on these towers 17th century spires. The entrance wing, on the north side, has two square corner towers, covered by four- and eight-sided constricted spires, between which a projecting building with a stepped gable above the gate; this north wing was built in the 16th century. On the interior above the gate a spout gable. This wing closes with stepped gables against the round corner towers. In the cellars covered with cross-ribbed vaults a museum with looms. Internally furthermore some plastered fireplaces, beam ceilings with carved keystones, some rooms with stucco from 1790; a fireplace with the arms of Van Arberg and Cortenbach, portraits of the families Cortenbach and Wesseman; furthermore a room with English stucco from the beginning of the 19th century.
