Slot Loevestein. Omstreeks 1360 bij het punt, waar Maas en Waal samenkomen gesticht omgracht kasteel, waarvan de woonvleugel aan de oostzijde twee vierkante torens bezit, in de vijftiende eeuw door een lagere vleugel met de poorttoren verbonden. Tegen de westgevel van het hoofdgebouw een vierkante traptoren. Inwendig zalen en kamers met moerbalken op korbelen; in de grote zaal muurschilderingen, omstreeks 1420 (?) en in de zogenaamde Kemenade een schoorsteenboezem, beschilderd met de wapens van Albrecht van Saksen en Philips de Schone, omstreeks 1500. Van de voorburcht is de zware, op cirkelvormige grondslag opgetrokken zogenaamde "kruittoren" bewaard gebleven. Rond het kasteel een gebastionneerde wal, aangelegd in het laatste kwart van de zestiende eeuw, verbeterd omstreeks 1700. Ten noorden van het kasteel een drietal lage, langgerekte gebouwen onder schild- en zadeldaken, omstreeks 1800 opgetrokken als militaire onderkomens en stallen ten behoeve van de vesting Loevestein.

Description
Castle Loevestein. Moated castle founded around 1360 at the point where the Meuse and Waal rivers meet, of which the residential wing on the east side has two square towers, connected in the fifteenth century by a lower wing with the gatehouse. Against the west gable of the main building a square stair tower. Internally halls and rooms with tie beams on corbels; in the great hall wall paintings from around 1420 (?), and in the so-called Kemenade a fireplace opening, decorated with the arms of Albrecht von Sachsen and Philip the Fair, around 1500. Of the outer ward the heavy, built on a circular base so-called "powder tower" has been preserved. Around the castle a bastioned rampart, laid out in the last quarter of the sixteenth century, improved around 1700. North of the castle three long, low buildings under hipped and gabled roofs, erected around 1800 as military quarters and stables for the Loevestein fortress.
