Exterior description and setting

Largely demolished remains of a terrace of three single storey houses set at the end of a lane to the N of the Ringneill Road, c.2.5 miles N of Killinchy.

The terrace appears to have been abandoned for some years. There are no remains of the roof but much of the rubble built walls are still standing as are the gables and much of the brick built chimney stacks, these remains, however, are in an advanced state of decay and are largely overrun by greenery.

Historical information

A block matching the shape, but perhaps not the size, of the present terrace is shown on this site on the OS maps of 1834 and 1859-60. The first valuation survey of 1834 appears to indicate that the block at this stage was in possession of a William Kelly. By c.1861 the block is stated to have contained two dwellings (in possession of a Robert Patton and a William J. Plunkett). Some time after this the block appears to have been extended to incorporate a third dwelling. The regularity of the chimney breasts suggests that the whole block may have been substantially renovated at this stage also.
