Exterior description and setting

A 2-storey 1-bay house, 1-bay to the ground floor but 2-bay to the first floor, with a 1-storey, 1-bay porch set back to one side, built as part of a terrace of 3 houses, and occupying the south end. Main entrance faces east.

East elevation: main roof hipped, of Bangor blue slates in regular courses; one chimney of later red brickwork; 2 red pots. Cast iron gutter. Walling is smooth cement rendered, lined and blocked with a slightly raised vertical strip of rusticated quoins to left-hand extremity and a narrow plain strip to the right (common with no 20). Two windows to first floor: rectangular timber sliding sash, vertically hung, 3 over 6, without horns; one window to ground floor: arched timber sliding sash, vertically hung, 1 over 1, without horns.

Porch: hipped roof slated as previous; cast iron gutter; walling is rendered as previous, with timber eaves board. Doorway is modern rectangular timber panelled.

South elevation: similar roofs; walling, to previous; 2-storey block blank; porch contains one doorway, rectangular glazed and panelled timber.

Rear elevation: 2-storey, with a single-storey projection cantilevered over the river which flows past the building. Main block: roof slated as previous; pvc gutter and downpipe; two windows to first floor, one rectangular timber fixed light with top-hung vent, the other semi-circular arched timber containing leaded glazing. Walling is rendered, wet dash.
Single-storey projection to right-hand end has a hipped slated roof; one window, rectangular timber.

SETTING: The building stands at one end of a terrace of three houses which face directly onto the street, with their rear elevations tight against the river, except for a narrow passage to the rear of this one; narrow passage also to the side of this one.

Historical information

Precise date of building not recorded but the terrace of which it is part appears for the first time on the OS map of 1857.
