Exterior description and setting

A 2-storey, 3-bay house built as part of a terrace of 3 houses and occupying its north end. Main entrance faces east.

East elevation: hipped roof of Bangor blue slates in regular courses; one chimney, red brick, 3 red pots, looks like cast iron gutter.
Walling is smooth cement rendered, lined and blocked; plain plinth; projecting vertical strip of rusticated quoins to the right-hand extremity, and a similar vertical strip projecting between the first and second bays of windows. Three windows to first floor, rectangular timber, 6-paned fixed light with 3-pane top-hung vent; projecting concrete cills. One similar window to right-hand end of ground floor; window to left of that is similar but with a Gothic pattern glazed fanlight in a Gothic arched opening, in replacement woodwork. Doorway contains a rectangular timber panelled door with a leaded glazed fanlight in a Gothic arched opening.

North elevation: roof slated as previous; walling rendered as previous, with vertical strip of rusticated quoins to left-hand extremity. Two windows to first floor, similar to previous. Projecting from ground floor is a single storey porch: lean-to roof of what looks like synthetic slates; pvc gutter and downpipe; walls smooth cement rendered, lined and blocked; oversailing eaves with timber soffits, eaves board, and barge boards. One window in east side, modern timber, as previous; doorway in north side, rectangular glazed and panelled timber; one window to west side, rectangular timber, 2-light casement, fixed and opening lights.

Rear elevation: 2-storey, with a single storey projection cantilevered over the river which flows past. Main block: roof slated as previous; walling is rendered with wet dash; looks like pvc gutter. One window to first floor, rectangular, looks like timber top-hung vent. Two windows to ground floor to main wall; looks like timber rectangular; to left-hand side is a small single storey projection cantilevered out from main wall; hipped roof; one window, rectangular 2-light.

SETTING: The building stands at one end of a terrace of three houses facing directly onto the pavement and the street, with their rear elevations tight against the river. There is a small yard to one side.

Historical information

Precise date of building not recorded but the terrace of which it is part appears for the first time on the OS map of 1857.
