Exterior description and setting

One-and-a-half storey/ three bay vernacular house with two-storey outbuilding to W. Both are set to N-side of road and found to the SE corner of Bunlougher Td.

Pitched natural slate roof with skylight to rear pitch. A single cement-rendered chimney set to right of centre. Plastic rainwater goods.

Principal elevation faces S. Walls are cement-dashed with smooth rendered basecourse and vertical bands to each end. All windows are sheeted over with concrete cills. Set to left of centre bay is a projecting porch (detailed as house) with modern glazed timber door. Left cheek is blank and right cheek has a window. Left and right bays each have a window.

Left and right gables each have a central timber casement window.

Rear elevation has two timber casement windows; one set to right of centre bay with the other to right bay.

The two-storey outbuilding has a pitched corrugated-metal roof with stone skews and plastic rainwater goods. Walls are rubble stone. Principal elevation faces E. It has two t+g-sheeted doors with t+g opening to first floor centre. Left gable is abutted by a similarly detailed lean-to with large opening to E face. Rear elevation of outbuilding has two timber louvred openings to ground floor and t+g sheeted opening to first floor centre. Rear elevation of lean-to has three ventilation openings. Right gable has a t+g sheeted door to first floor accessed by external stone stair.

Evaluation

A much altered vernacular house with outbuilding to W. The outbuilding is of greater interest in this group, constructed of rubble stone with external stair. It has been sympathetically restored and retains some of its original character.
