Exterior description and setting

A walled cemetery with a house, formerly a cemetery lodge, attached at the south-west corner. Boundary walling and square gate piers of basalt rubble; entrance gates of plain wrought iron facing west. Memorials of late 19th century and of 20th century, none of any special architectural or historic interest. The associated house, no. 85 Deerpark Road, is single-storey, gabled, with a symmetrical three-bay entrance front facing south, main entrance in a projecting central gabled porch; walls dry dashed using white limestone chippings; roofs of Bangor blue slates in regular courses with ridges of red terracotta of serrated profile; rustic brick chimney with modern pots; openings segmental headed with raised surrounds in black-painted cement render. Main feature of interest is a shield panel on side gable facing main road. Flat roofed return to rear abutting boundary wall of cemetery.

Setting: the cemetery and its associated house stand in open countryside alongside the road.

Historical information

Plaque on gable of house is inscribed “Built by David Nelson Esq. J.P. of Larne 1887.”

This is a Victorian cemetery which contains no memorials of any architectural interest, with an associated house which does not have any architectural value or merit beyond the minor local interest inherent in its inscription plaque.
