The National Monuments Service's description

From: O’Mahony, A. (1987, 18-20, No. 14) This monument (Wth 0.71m; H 0.86m) is attached to the west wall of the North Transept. There is a central shield, showing the coats of arms of the Dormer and Archer families, and an elaborate surrounding sculpture. The motto beneath the shields is DEUS PROVIDEBIT (God will provide), with the initials MD on the left and DA on the right. The date on top is 1648. The inscription is underneath. It reads:

DOM* usually an acronym for (Laus) Domino optimao maximo (Praise the Lord, the best and the greatest)
MATHAEVS DORMER, filius Johannis DORMER, uillae Rosspontinae mercator prouidus, prudens iustus ac pius vir, nec non catholicae religionis fidelis filius, et eius vxor Dorothea Archer, discreta, honesta ac deuota matrona, monumentum hoc, seu Insignia sibi, ac posteris suis Fieri Fecerunt.
(Dedicated to the Lord, the Best and Greatest. Mathew Dormer, son of John Dormer, a provident merchant of the town of Ross, a prudent, just and pious man, and moreover faithful son of the Catholic religion, and his wife, Dorothea Archer, a wise, upright and dutiful spouse, had this monument, or (these) insignia, made for themselves and their descendants.)
The last line is obliterated. John Dormer was sovereign of New Ross in 1623.
