The National Monuments Service's description
In the N wall of the choir of the cathedral (TS061-025003-) on the Rock of Cashel. A composite wall monument of Archbishop Hamilton who held office from 1623-1629. It consists of a badly damaged recumbent slab (L 1.8m; Wth 0.6m) set within a round-headed tomb recess with entablature. The side pilasters have moulded imposts which continue as a string-course to the rear of the recess. Above this string-course, at the rear of the recess, there is a rectangular plaque with a latin inscription, in Roman capitals, which is badly eroded and only a small part can be deciphered, which translates as 'Feed my sheep'. FitzGerald (1903, 445) quotes from Ware's 'Bishops of Ireland' (Harris vol. 1, 486) that the monument 'was defaced by a chisel in the reign of King James II by some ignorant Papist'. Above the entablature there is a heraldic achievement flanked on either side by a debased Ionic pilaster and supporting ovolo scroll, the whole resting on a plain rectangular plinth. On top is a semicircular open-fan device, itself topped by an obelisk.
