The National Monuments Service's description

A peatland survey carried out in 2006 by Archaeological Development Services recorded a togher measuring in ‘width 4.3-11m, depth 0.2-0.7m, length 100m’ (Whitaker 206, 81). The togher was dated to AD130-420. Described by Whitaker (2006, 81-2) as ‘this substantial togher was visible at four sightings at the northern end of Littleton Bog. It was orientated northwest-southeast and was composed of regularly laid transverse roundwoods. The togher was more substantial at the western end, at TI-LTN423a, but was composed of fewer elements in the remaining sightings. TI-LTNO24a, 223573, 159323, Width 0.77m, Depth 0.11m. This sighting was located at the northwest end of the togher: and was exposed on the field surface and in the drain face. It was composed of eight regularly laid and closely spaced transverse roundwoods interspersed with occasional brushwood that was randomly laid. The wood was moderately preserved, but the upper surfaces had been machine damaged’.
