The National Monuments Service's description
Situated on top of a drumlin. It was described in 1968 (SMR file) as a circular grass-covered area (diam. 57m E-W; 55.5m N-S) defined by a slight earthen bank or scarp that was separated by a fosse or berm from an outer bank (diam. 78m E-W; 75m N-S). This bank is largely reduced to a scarp (at W: Wth 3.2m; H 2.8m) and hedge that has a fosse (at W: Wth of top 3.2m; Wth of base 2.2m; ext. D 0.85m) at its base WSW-NE with an outer field bank (at W: Wth of base 4.4m; ext. H 1.75m) WSW-WNW. The entrance is not identified but the outer bank is destroyed E-SE by old farm buildings. The inner bank had been removed by 2000 (OSAP).
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
