The National Monuments Service's description
On poorly drained S-facing slope of rising ground, with commanding views from E-S-W, summit of Cullaun Mountain 1km to N. Townland boundary with Gannavane Upper lies 45m to N. Possible ringfort (LI008-005----) lies c. 35m to NE. No antiquity is depicted at this location on the 1840 ed. OS 6-inch map. Depicted on the Cassini OSi 6-inch map as a small oval-shaped hollow, and referred to locally as a quarry (SMR File). Monument surveyed by the ASI in 1999 and described as a sunken circular-shaped area (18.9m N-S; 17.8m E-W) defined by an earthen bank (overall Wth 6.8m; Wth at top 1.2m; int. H 0.1m; ext. H 0.6m) from NE-E-S-W-NW and by an internal scarp (H 2.2m; Wth 2m) which is almost vertical from NW-N-NE. The interior is level and is much lower than the external ground level across the N and E sectors. A field boundary running NE-SW extends from the bank at NE. Referred to locally as a quarry, although the smooth surface on its interior, presence of an enclosing bank suggests that it may be a pond barrow rather than the remains of a post-medieval quarry. Difficult to be certain about the barrow classification for this earthwork. Visible as an oval-shaped tree-lined monument on Digital Globe orthophotos taken 2011-13 and Google Earth orthoimage taken 18/11/2018.
