The National Monuments Service's description
On the brow of a gentle S-facing slope with excellent views of the surrounding countryside except to the W where the ground level rises. It is surrounded by an area of marsh from SW-W-N.
Included by Empey (1990, 85) in a list of medieval towns, or settlements with borough status. The settlement appears to have developed from an early medieval monastic site which still retains its church (KK024-062001-), graveyard (KK024-062002-) and round tower (KK024-062004-). The settlement extends to the N and W of the church. It consists of a complex series of at least eight clearly defined rectangular, subcircular and subtriangular enclosures and platforms, and linear embankments, spread out across the field with a particular concentration of remains on the N downslope. The larger rectangular and triangular enclosures most likely represent tofts or crofts while the smaller platforms are probably house sites.
