The National Monuments Service's description
Rectangular 2-storey school at N end of Charleville. Coursed random-rubble limestone construction with ashlar quoins. Gable-ended with coursed ashlar chimney stacks atop gables; ornate quatrefoil niche with central ventilation slit in gable ends. Front (NE) of 5 bays, stone flat-arched window opes with sash windows; central limestone plaque reads 'The Charleville National School AD 1833'. Stone staircase over archway on NW gable end gives access to 1st floor round-headed door ope. Blocked 1st-floor window in SE gable end; late 19th-century single-storey porch on ground floor with hipped roof and brick detail. Yard to rear divided into two. Used as furniture store, converted to theatre subsequent to inspection.
